Hey everyone! I've been reading on here for some time now and there has been some acceptance topics. Has anyone ever taken a nursing student success course prior to starting a nursing program? If so what was it like, was the course hard, and was it helpful? I got an email today saying I am selected for a nursing program that starts on Aug 2015. They want us to do a nursing student success course that is 8 weeks long. It begins in late Jan and goes through march and also again on late march to late may. I haven't received the add code for the course yet though. I am surprised as the email came earlier than expected, I was told that the emails go out in Jan. Off to a great christmas present so far :)
Thank you for the tips and advice:bookworm:
Do you know how many classes you will have per 8 weeks?
Your semesters sound like ours - 1 semester broken down into 2 - 8 week sessions. It's hard. The way it was told to me before starting was "flying by the seat of your pants", and after my first 8 weeks, there truly was no better way to put it. My first 8 weeks we had 3 classes - the rest of the program will only be 2 classes per 8 weeks (but there will be the addition of clinicals, so it might as well be a third class!).
I will say that those first 8 weeks flew by. I'm still learning time management, but it's something that is absolutely essential, especially with the 8 week courses. My last 8 weeks I thankfully only had 1 class as my credits transferred for the other, so the last 8 weeks really seemed to drag, but it was nice to be able to devote my time to 1 class.
My school's rationale for the 8 week blocks is so that we're only focusing on 2 classes at a time vs 4. So it's only 2 finals vs 4. As hard as it is, I like it. It's so fast paced, but the light at the end of the tunnel seems so much nearer!
It can feel overwhelming, but I also wouldn't change it for the world (right now).

after looking at the handbook of my cc, the nursing program that I got accepted into has nursing courses scheduled in 8 week blocks. It seems like there are 2 blocks for one whole semester?
It has been a while since I last took a course in 8 weeks, it was microbio that I took during a summer session.
it sounds like busy busy work since it's multiple classes in 8 weeks.
