Nursing-student Malpractice Insurance

Published

Talking to a patient at the office today she mentioned to me that I might want to look into my own while I am a student.

I did a quick search and found this: http://www.nso.com/pli/cd_student3.php?action=0&state=PA&no_header=

Would love opinions.

Thanks!

you need to check with your school. that insurance is probably student health insurance. some schools require students to have health insurance and will provide it with part of the tuition money. at any rate, you need to check and find out what you really have.

oh, it's . i do know that much. i just wish they'd have let us get our own instead of just doing it for us and charging us.

We're required to purchase for our program. The school has contracted with a company so we pay $20 for each year.

I'm going to join the Student Nurse's Association on campus as well, so maybe it wouldn't hurt to have more insurance...

I am insured through NSO for the $29 rate. I don't know if being a NSNA member is mandatory, though. My school has a SNA chapter, technically, but it's inactive. So it's possible that any nursing student can get that rate, not just NSNA members. I feel that $29 for peace of mind for a year is worth it to me and I plan to carry my own as an RN as well.

IS NSO the only ONE?!

Hello There!

I'm Class of 2009! Wew-Hoo! Having a hard time getting in touch with NSO: online application dumps including their FAX# ! Ugh! I found a competitor: HPSO. I'm wondering if anyone know's of another student nurse provider out there, that I should check out???

Thanks!

HPSO and NSO both are divisions of Affinity Insurance Services. HPSO insures PAs as well as nurses and a host of other healthcare-related specialties. NSO just covers nurses and nursing-related specialties.

Both do not insure CNM or CRNA.

Coverage for the nurse (in their respective states) is identical with HPSO and NSO. They are not competitors.;)
