Nurse Mentor----can you adopt me?

Hi I am a nursing school student that is failing. "Weeding" season has begun in my program and I am at risk for getting plucked. No instructors or faculty members can be trusted to turn to. I know you all are busy people but I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to adopt me????? I need a nursing mentor really badly just for advice and help when its needed. Please please pretty please!!!!???? BTW, I am in the BSN program.

I agree with the above post, instructors you cant trust. What in the world is going on at you school? You dont have to tell us if dont like but please explain yourself a little more.

Ok allow me to explain. I am a great student. I print lecture notes, take verbal lecture notes, record lectures, and utilize my textbook to the fullest extent. I study. That's my full-time job, to study. I do not over-do it, but I do study. We were given a test in Fundamentals this past week and oh my goodness. It was ridiculous to the point where it was laughable. These tests are formulated with a question and 4 right answers with the BEST one being chosen. The best one according to who? I did not bomb the test but I did not do as well as I wanted. On the other hand, there were people failing left and right. The instructors response: "For those of you that did poorly on the exam, you have at least 2 weeks to feel sorry for yourselves before the next exam is to come". Wow, that was warm and caring. I would definitely go to someone like that for help. Not! These instructors here they do not care. Listen people, when I say it's "WEEDING" season, I mean they are setting the traps for people who can not read between the bullschitt and it is working. You can not go to them for help because they want you to be able to understand things as they are presented and if you do not then they have no use for you.

This is typical nursing instructor behavior. Get used to it. If you study, you will pass -- as you are. Stay defensive and know your stuff to the best of your ability and you will be ok.

For what it's worth, you are going to be forced to do those "pick the best answer of the four" multiple choice questions throughout your entire program, which culminates in the NCLEX, which asks very similarly worded questions. It's all going to be about the "which answer comes first" prioritization and the "best" choice. Get used to reading and answering these questions the way they want you to now and you will have a leg up on everyone else.

Mentors by definition are not meant to be instructors. Instructors are often the reason why students need mentors.

Now, I remember those types of questions on the exam in Fundamentals. I have had good instructors that are strict and wanted me to be the best. I be honest I was mad at them but I respected them because they wanted me to be the best.

On most nursing test you may have to use test strategy techniques. I remember in nursing school they offered this type of course. Most people benefit from it. But all teachers/instructors are different. I have heard of some who wanted to fail their students because some instructors believe the student was not cut out to be good nurses.

You have to trust at least one of the instructors because they can make you or break you. This is meant by pencil whipping you. Good luck.

Really?! Where?!?? My instructors were nothing like that. They were very, very, helpful and held exam reviews before and after tests. And, my program mandated that anyone who scored 74% or less on any test be tutored by an upperclassman. If you were a senior, obviously you wouldn't have that, but the instructors were always up for helping you succeed in any way they can.

And, my school has had a 98-99% NCLEX pass rate (first time takers) consistently over the past couple of years.

Those types of questions are all you are going to get in nursing school. The test is written that way to prepare you for the NCLEX.

Does your school have NSNA? Something that my school did and encouraged and promoted among the 2nd year students was to become a mentor to the 1st year students.

Having a mentor is great having someone who is half way through your same program is even better.

Can you find out who is farther along in your program and see if they could mentor you?
