So i just started nursing skills class this semester and i am going to have my first check off this coming Tuesday. I feel like I'm prepared, but i don't know what to expect. So I'm nervous. Can you guys tell me what to expect? or have any suggestion how to be prepared for this kind of check offs? This is all new to me....Thanks

Usually, we would just go to the simulation lab, perform the required tasks, and as long as we showed that we were competent we got checked off and on our way we went. If we did not display competence then we would have to schedule practice time in the lab before we could be re-checked.
If you will be getting checked off in the simulation lab...I would schedule time to go there (if you can) to make sure you become comfortable with where everything is and the environment...you can also continue to practice this skill(s) during your scheduled lab time. This will help to calm your nerves. I would continue to read up on these skills and watch YT videos or the videos that you use for class while you await your check-off. The more you practice and expose yourself to the skills, the more comfortable you will become, and the less nervous you will be!
Good Luck!
Thank you so much...there wasn't open lab hours for the weekend so i have been watching videos. crossing fingers that i won't get a brain freeze in the middle of the check off...Lol I'll let you know how it went. thanks again
Oh, I see. Even if you do freeze up...just take a deep breath. It will come back to you. Again, good luck to you.
thank God I passed my first check off. Just like i said, i got nervous in the middle of the check off, and the instructor noticed but she just told me to take a breath and then to continue and i did it. Now 1 down & 3 more to go lol...Thank you for your advise.
