Nursing Shortage in Atlanta?

Published

Hello, this is my first time posting so bear with me :)

I use to live in Marietta, GA like 2 years ago. At the time, there was Nursing jobs available. Now, I REALLY want to move back to Atlanta Metro area and I was told that there are NO Nursing Jobs in Atlanta, and I would just be better staying here in Houston for one year to gain experience, THEN get my TX license endorsed, THEN apply.

Is this true? Should I just get my one year experience then move? Or would I be able to find a job after graduation?

To my knowledge there is still a critical nursing shortage here in Atlanta, I was just on Wellstar's website and they had plenty of nursing jobs available. Hopefully this helps!

DO NOT MOVE ! There are jobs posted on the hospital websites but they will have nothing to do with you if you are a new grad. If you have some experience, then by all means interview and secure your job before you move. But if you are a new grad, I would hate to see you take the trouble of moving and incurring extra expense without a promise of a job. New grad positions are virtually impossible to get in Atlanta.

I just relocated from New England to Southeast Atlanta. I had less than a year experience and got the only job I applied at. I put feelers out there and there were several other places I had leads on but really wanted to work at the place I was hired at so waited before applying and then never needed to apply elsewhere!

The hardest was it took forever to transfer my license!

All the best to you!

Question -

So if you wait like three months (because that's what I heard it takes to get you license endorsed) to get your license endorsed, can you still work at the hospital you work for until your license is endorsed?

Kukajoo--what hospital do you work for? Any idea how much new grads make in that area?

Hi Noelle,

I don't know if you are a RN or a LPN. But I juust moved out to GA from NY as a LPN and there are jobs but they all require experience as gansu stated. I have been a LPN for 2 years and have been told that my resume is impressive but does not fit what they are looking for. I have even applied for CNA, PCT, and HHA positions but since I am not certified for those positions I was not considered for them. How is one going to get experience if you are not willing to hire them to do the job? The pay rate for LPN's can start as low as $12 to $18 depending on what type of facility you are working in. RN's get around $20 to about $30, but again it depends on what facility it is and your experience. I wish you luck !
