Nursing Shoes?

Can anyone tell me about any really comfortable shoes for Nursing

Thank you

Does anyone have suggestions for someone with *very* high arches/insteps who is also overweight and very tall?

I looked at Danskos but they would add more height to me than I am comfortable with. I have worn Birkenstock's *sandals* for years but can't seem to find anything resembling a nursing *shoe* that has a high enough instep. I have a pair of SuperBirki's that I wear for gardening but even they don't have a high enough instep and of course they aren't adjustable.

I bought a pair of Holey Soles (like Crocs) on Ebay for wearing at the pool and they are really comfortable but there isn't near enough of an arch to support me.

Thoughts for me?

Birkenstock makes a clog with a back strap, and you can get them in white. I wore them for years.

JCAHO prohibits backless shoes, but the strap sufices. They say it's a safety hazard in an emergency if you have to move fast, they don't want nurses losing their shoes.

Funny how when you ask a question like this you get SO many answers, must mena that comfort kind of depends on your foot... I have Danskos. My husband said, if you're going to be on your feet you'd better have some GOOD shoes. My favorite non nursing shoes are Born. I wish they made nursing shoes.. I'd wear them ALL THE TIME!

I don't have the problem with the height, I'm 5 ft, but I am overweight and have a big problem finding shoes to fit my little feet. I found that Cherokee makes a nursing shoe called Rockers that comes in all sizes and shapes. Maybe take a look at those.

Hi,

I just bought a new shoe called, "CROCS." They are VERY comfortable. I bought the metro style.

I have the same problem (although I am short, not tall). My feet tend to walk themselves out of any sort of clogs due to the high instep. Birks tend to cripple my feet (it hurts when I don't wear them and just go barefoot). Crocs don't seem to have enough heel support to keep my foot in. I just go for a good pair of Brooks - they make running and walking shoes in great sizes, like my 7 1/2 EE foot.

try MBT thea are really high in price but worth every penny.

I always had pains in my back and feet and I tryed alot fo different shoes in 20 years of nusring from clogs,to Birkenstock , sneakers, shoes with supports etc... and as I worked in a nusing home for elderly pepole I had about 80 clients per night on 5 floors this meant running the whole night (I work in Germany) and at 6:00 am a thought I could amputated my legs then somebody told me about MBT and I looked at their website http://www.MBT.ch and talked to my Doc. what he thinks about these shoes and he highly recommend them to me.

I now can walk the whole day and my feet and legs joints are not in pain and I´m so happy

I went to the site, but it is too bad I don't speak much german. It looks like a manufacturing company, not a shoe store. Did you post the right link?

That one worked. Wow - $250 a pair. Has anyone else tried them?

I LOVE my Dansko Professionals. I purchased them on Ebay for $65 after trying them on in the store. All the RN's I work with swore by them, so I thought I would give them a try. And I'm glad I did. When I first tried them on, I was a bit skeptical because they felt very heavy and hard. But after my first shift, my legs weren't fatigued, my back didn't hurt, and my heels weren't aching. I keep a watch on Ebay for Dansko's in my size so I can pick them up cheaper than the $110 the shoe stores charge for them.

Just bought two pair of Dansko last night. The Ingrid and the Professional. THe minute they were on my feet I could tell they were the perfect shoe.

For the tall, overweight poster...I am just shy of 6', and I'm a bit overweight as well. Don't worry about being taller..just buy a shoe that is comfy. If you're tall, you'll probably tower over everyone anyway...:) The Danskos might add an inch or two but they are well worth it to save your feet. I wore mine around the house last night and I didn't want to take them off..LOL! :chuckle

For anyone wanting to order new balance shoes online (which I only feel safe doing since I've worn their shoes and know my size well):

www.zappos.com is an awesome site to order shoes from. Their prices include free shipping, and you usually receive your package the very next business day. If they don't fit (hard to do because their sizing guide seems to be right on most of the time) or you just don't like them, you can return them or exchange them.

Also...and best of all...they have a 110% refund policy for the difference between their price and any online competitor's price. For instance, I just ordered a 626 pair, which is usually about $70. However, I found them for $51.95 at www.holabirdsports.com, so after my refund, I'll end up paying only about $50 for them while still having the advantages of getting them from a larger, well-known store and with fast, free shipping and better customer service (a huge deal for me after it took over 60 days to get a shipment from allheart.com once. I know they were having problems during that period of time, but geez  )

I know zappos also has dansko and probably a lot of the other brands of nursing shoes, too.
