Nursing while serving active duty in the Navy?

Published

Hello, I was planning on attending Henry Ford College nursing program while going active duty in the Navy. I haven't been accepted into the Navy yet, and I haven't done my HESI yet either, but I was wondering if it's possible to do that while being in active duty and possibly be out of town to another state or country? I really need some advice and tips

That will be incredibly difficult to do. Why not go to college for nursing on the Navy's dime? There are a few programs out there.

I'm sorry, what exactly is the Navy's dime? I'm still kind of new at this, sorry.

It means having the Navy pay for it and then upon graduation you serve in the Navy as a RN.

That's what I was saying. I was planning on taking the HESI, passing it and applying to the program while going active duty in the Navy. I was wondering if that was easy or not and if I'm deployed on a ship, how will that work out?

You’ll have to forgive me but what is HESI? When you say active duty are you referring to enlisting? Which program are you intending to apply to?

It's okay! HESI is the entrance exam to join the nursing program. I mean enlisting, because right now I'm about to take the asvab and do boot camp, then afterwards it's A-School for the job I picked and I might be deployed

The Navy has a program you can apply to that will pay you and pay your schooling to become a nurse without having to enlist. If you plan on enlisting it will be very hard to do nursing school while enlisted.

I would look at NROTC or the Nurse Candidate Program.

This is a far better route. Get your nursing degree and get paid by the Navy, then go active duty as an RN.
