Nursing - my second degree

Hello!

I am not sure if anyone here has a prior degree in something totally different than nursing. I have my BA in Accounting and have been doing that for the last 10 years, until last year when I finally made up my mind to go to nursing school. I am not so sure how to set up and word my resume so that I don't come across as a wishy-washy, I-don't-know-what-I-wanna-be-when-I-grow-up, idiot. So if anyone has any ideals, please let me know.

Thanks! :uhoh3:

Hello! I just graduated with my BSN from nursing school last week, but before I decided I wanted to go into nursing, I already held a BS and MS in biology. On my resume I just simply start with listing the schools I attended starting with the most recent, and as for jobs I do the same: I listed my hospital experience first-work as a CNA and also as a student nurse in clinicals, and then listed my biology job experience. I don't think future employers will look at someone with multiple degrees as wishy-washy, but will probably really value us because we bring prior experience and knowledge to the profession. Also, I think slightly older nursing students (ok-I'm only 28!) :) usually tend to be, for the most part, more serious about school and better students.

Hope that helps!

I have a degree in marketing. I started working as a CNA last year. I used a functional resume. The premise was to use key terms in a one sentence "profile" and the show examples from your previous experience that shows you have those key skills. I used things like "quick learner" "responsible" etc. You can find examples on Monster.

Thanks Christine!! :)

Hi Sandy!

I am currently in an accelerated second-degree program and love it! I think it is great that you are taken the huge and exciting step towards nursing. My first degree is in Pre-Law and I would agree with Christine that I am a more serious student now than during my first degree. I think you want it more because we are old enough to know what we want! Make sense?

Either way, I wish you all the best! It is so rewarding and you will not regret it...

Marci:)
