Good for you and your decision to head into this field. I think you will know pretty quick rather you love it or hate it - at least that is how it was for me. There are some people that think that they want to be a nurse and then get into their clinicals and cannot do it. I think it is good that you are taking the EMT route. You may find that you love being an EMT and then a nurse. At least you are open to it and doing what is best for you. You can never go wrong when you listen to your heart... I wish you luck and just remember, that nursing school is not as bad as everyone says. It is hard work but so worth it! I wish you all the best...:)

Hi Maisie! Congrats on your acceptance! I am currently in an accelerated second degree program and although it is demanding I dont believe it is difficult overall. Is there parts of it that can be difficult...yes, but it is all in your attitude just like anything else. I had a difficult time with Pathophysiology but did my best and ended up with a grade I could live with. I think that course and Pharm were most difficult just because there is so much information and so much to retain. But, you will get through it and it will make you stronger. In my opinion, the first semester of nursing school was the hardest. After that (and even now in my clinicals) I dont feel as I did the first semester because this is the fun stuff now - actually applying what you have learned and are continuing to learn. Once you get past prereqs, you will find that the "real" nursing courses was the reason why you wanted to become a nurse. Dont let the prereqs stress you out! Do your best, take deep breaths, have a good support system (buddies that make you laugh) and DONT GET BEHIND!!! Hope this helps and again...Congrats! :balloons: Best of luck to you...

I would agree. My friends who are nurses (cardiac and trauma) recommend Prestige. Littmann and DRG are also very good but I ended up purchasing a Prestige very much like the one in the picture. My instructors told me if I was having a hard time hearing (which I was) to try that one. I am in my second week of clinicals and it works great! Good luck... Class of 2006:balloons:

I am a nursing student in an accelerated program. Let me just say for the record that I did NOT pick nursing...nursing picked me! It is a calling and a desire to want to be a part of something bigger - the care and healing of the patient. I am so proud to tell people that I am a soon-to-be nurse. I look up to nurses and was influenced by nurses. So for all the true nurses out there dont assume that all us nursing students are here for the money. There are still a few of us who love to help people and believe it is our calling. Cheesy? Maybe, but I would rather have a nurse by my side and in my corner who enjoys being a nurse - not just the paycheck! Hell, if money was so important to me i could become an exotic dancer. Dont they make really good money? ha

My thing to do is to categorize everything as to: Mechanism of Action Use Pharmacokinetics Adverse Reaction Interactions That's when I know I am in Pharmacology hell! I can't even enjoy one episode of CSI without jumping into full form...it's crazy, but so worth it!!

Hi there! Keep taking pre-reqs and build up your gpa. I got accepted to an accelerated BSN with a gpa of 3.0 (barely). Most schools will only look at your gpa from this point forward based on your pre-req grades. So, do your best and hang in there! It will be worth it...:) Good luck!
