Lost It at Work!
I work nightsw and something just are not appropriate to do at night. I want to see what kind of browbeating the nurse who calls an surgeon at 2am to ask him to come get consent signed for a procedure the next afternoon.

prostituting our nurses
I would like to add, if a doc doesn't want a second page don't write stupid orders. "What the patient takes at home" is not an order!

Displaced Katrina evacuees nurses getting new grad jobs???
This may seem too simple. Ask the hospital who offered you the job, how long the offer is good for or when do you need to get back to them by. Then, call the other hospital, ask if you are being considered as a canidate at this time or not and how long before they make a decission.

Insominiac here.. Need 11am to 11pm shift...
I saw a posting for Sister of Providence Health systems in Springfield MA, for a 11a -11p shift in the ED.

Who gets the job?
Your only choice is to offer the seasoned nurse the new nurses hours. After all if you go back on the new nurse she is going to leave and there is really nothing showing the the experienced nurse is going to stay very long if she does come back. Can you offer the experienced nurse some per diem hours until anouther spot opens up?

Hello everyone i need some help please?
I am really sorry to hear that. I have always had decent instructors, but there are many other clinical instructors that I don't have. As I have a pretty strong interest in the success of the program, is there anything I can do to help the situation? I can put you in touch with the course coordinators or someone who may be able to remedy complaints. Please feel free to PM me as much detail as you feel comfortable. I would like to do what I can to improve the situation.

Spo2/Telemetry Monitor & Pager system
I'm a monitor tech. I can only imagine that this would be a nightmare of pages. Especially with Spo2. We have 2 different systems, Siemens and Philips. On both systems to O2 monitors are very unreliable. Pt O2 jump from 95 to 35. The pt rolls over, someone take a bp on the arm with the sensor, things like that. I have investigated levels in the 80's to discover the sensor in the bed and the pt in the bathroom.

Difference betw living will and adv directive
I had the impression that a living will is part of an advance directive. A living will states what medical treatment an individual would want to recieve if unable to speak for themselves. An advance directive includes the living will, statement of healthcare proxy and sometimes organ donation specifications.

it doesn't matter what kind of nurse you are.
I think we are missing the point of the message. I think he means we should keep in mind that just because someone is a LPN does not mean they give substandard care, and RN after a name does not automatically mean good care. I have seen CNA's inspire patients to get well. You would be surpised (may be not we are all in the profession) the small things that can give people hope and that leads to wellness. We need to look beyond the alphabet soup and see all of our co-workers and colleages as vital resources.

Family friendly nursing, home care?
I an going to graduate my ADN in August. I have two small children and I'm looking for family friendly areas to work in. I currently work (CNA) in a hospital and always assumed I would be med/surge in a hospital, but it is anything but flexible or tolerant of my other obligations. Maybe it is the hospital. I live in CT, does anyone know a good place? Some one suggested home care for my, stating good hours and flexiblity. I'm not oppossed to home care, just have not given it much thought. Is it really better or does it just seem that way from the outside?

Hello everyone i need some help please?
Your telling me. I'm in the first class and I'm willing to make a burnt offering (of the neigbor's cat, sorry not a cat fan!) to get accreditation. If it makes you feel better, everyone in my class takes this very seriously! I don't think we will lose anyone and Goodwin seems to be working hard to get us ready.

"She's Just A Nurse"
My mother is a nurse. When I was in high school I thought there was not way I was going to be "just a nurse". Now I'm 30 years old, going back to school while working, with two kids. I now know the value of nurses and the skill and intelligence it takes to be one. There are a lot of people like me but there are not enough high school students like you. I think you found yourself a mission to teach other young people the value of this profession. Good luck to you.

Telemetry Monitoring Procedures
I currently work as a monitor tech (student RN). Where I work the CNA's get 6 hours training on reading the monitors, then two days sitting at the station with another tech. Monitor watching is rotated among the CNA's. The monitors are located in a remote corner of the tele floor. We monitor 3 floors, for two floors we get a list of assigned aids, and RN by patient. If there is problem we can call or page the assigned person. There are "stat" phones on each floor for emergencies. One floor we call the stat phone for anything. I will say 70 percent of the day is spent calling aids to find out why the monitor is off. On one of the floors is another set of monitors, so I can tell the RN to please look at the monitor, if I feel something is not quite right. For the other floor, we print strips twice a shift and send them down. I convinced no one ever looks at these strips (no one ever calls for them if you forget). We also tube down any arrythmias we see during the day. I think the biggest flaw with this is that the station is isolated. If I have a question I have to call someone over. I have seen where the monitors are at a nursing station, which is nicer because if you see something that did not come up in the 6 hour training, it is likely there will be someone around who knows more that you do. Anyway that is how we do it.

Help with basic Biology 100....
This is a trick I used for A&P and it work quite well. Reading the material was not enough for me. I wrote note cards. If the material was really had I tried to divide it different way on different cards.
