Nursing as a second course for non allied medical graduate? should i go for it?

i am already 25 years old. a graduate of liberal arts degree 4 years ago. i am planning to study again and i am considering BSN as the best choice. should i go for it? what is the odds of getting a job abroad especially in highly industrialized countries? i dont have so much of a work experience since i have been a microentrepreneur for three years already. therefore, it seems that i would be diving myself into a new career as a starter professional. do you think that with my age (i would be 29 when i graduate from BSN) i can still make it through the nursing profession here in the philippines (philippine hospitals tend to hire younger nurses compared to second coursers) or abroad?

Hello. I'm a registered pharmacist and currently a nursing second courser. I am 23 years old ryt now, I decided to take up nursing as a second course when I was 21. I'll hopefully be finishing my second course next yr, I'll be 24 by then. But for me, age doesn't really matter. I have classmates who are over 40, some even 50, they're engineers, accountants, business & commerce grads, but they're doing well. During clinical exposures, and even during lectures. Some are starting to plan and lay out their papers and documents to work abroad as RN's. I think you have a good chance of getting a good job as a nurse both here and overseas. God Bless you!

hello! i think you should ask yourself first if you really want to work in a hospital, take care of other people and work even if it is holiday.

regarding your age. i think it will not affect your application in any hospital. you know, i have several 2nd courses classmates who are now around 35-45 yo. :rolleyes:

hello, i'm also a second courser. i'm an accountancy graduate. i was also 25 when i enrolled nursing 3 yrs ago. i'll be graduating this march then take the boards on june. i have a small business but i make sure that i can spend time to study. i work to pay for my tuition & i'm proud of it. 3 yrs in nursing may seem a long time but for me it seems like yesterday so my advise to you is to go for it.

i was 33 years old when i earned my bsn degree...i am currently working as an rn here in the u.s., now comtemplating of getting a master's degree in nursing.... so you want to be a nurse? the question is, do you want to do the job? 25 is very young!. an average american gets their bsn or adn degree by 22-25 up. age is not a factor here. if you can do the job as nurse, they don't care if you are 55 years old new grad! if your heart tells you that you want to be a nurse? go for it. of coorifice, coming from the philippines like i did, i know money is the main reason why we all study nursing, on the otherhand, we are better, excellent nurses, compare to others...( i don't care if someone will disagree). now adays, there are a lot of second coursers, or first degree holders switching to nursing for obvious reason...they want to make their lives better. period. and there is nothing is wrong with that. ask yourself first if you want to be one.then go for it. nothing is impossible. hope to see post another question here in allnurses, goodluck to you!

-And also comment on if you are happy with the school you chose?

I checked the list of second courser schools and am trying to learn as much as i can from existing students.

Appreciate any advice.

I am also going to enroll this coming school year and researching as much as i can.

i study in Medina College here in Ozamiz City. for me it doesn't matter what school you study as long as you stay focused on your goal. :studyowl:
