I did not work while attending an LPN/LVN program.
I worked an average of 32 hours per week as an LVN at a nursing home while attending an RN bridge program full-time. My grades remained above average and I have no regrets for working while going to school. Contrary to popular belief, work and school can be managed at the same time.
I believe it's doable and not impossible. Some people have to work. I currently work weekends as a CNA and I plan on doing that throughout my BSN program, which starts this fall. 1st semester all my classes happened to be Mon and Weds so I won't be picking up any extra shifts. All my time off I'll devote to class and studying. I guess it's all about time management.
I had the very same question a year ago. I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to make the grades and work full time. I didn't have a choice and i am still nervous going into my last year that I will be able to continue my success. The bigggest suggestion that I can give to you is time management. The other thing that I did is take the weekend off before each semester final to make sure I had plenty of time to study. Good luck - plan ahead and you'll do great.

Hello!! I am new to the site and so far I love it. There are so many questions I have about nursing school and I have found many of the answers just by reading the blogs. I am 36 yrs old with no kids. I currently work part time. My question is can a nursing student work and still be successful in school! I am aware it is a challenge. I have to work I have no other options. Thanks in advance!
