Nursing School -- 2.5 Undergrad GPA

Hi everyone. I have a 2.5 undergraduate GPA in English and have taken 2 Psych courses, A&P and Chemistry at my local community college with a 4.0.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of ABSN programs I should be considering? I should have some strong professor recs. I know my 2.5 puts me out of the running for most programs, and I am getting on the list for the ADN program at my community college, but I am interested in at least applying to a few ABSN programs. I live in North Carolina, but I am open to relocating. Suggestions of programs that I may be able to get into?

Most schools look at your application as a whole package with GPA being only one component. I suggest boosting other parts of your application: get some healthcare experience, build a complete story about why you are passionate about nursing and why now, demonstrate your abilities by taking more courses, meet with admission people and professors of programs that you are interested in, etc.

I also did not have a great undergrad GPA but I worked hard for a couple years to build up application. I got into a number of top direct-entry MSN programs this year.

Keep working towards your goal. The great thing about nursing is that there are so many ways to become a nurse.

You could also consider programs that look at only your gpa in specific prerequisite courses (that differ program by program). I know of a few ADN programs that do this...not sure if it works the same way for BSN/MSN or not. Either way, there are definitely ADN programs that look only at your gpa in specific prerequisite courses, so you could always repeat/take those courses at a community college if your grades were bad in them or if you haven't taken them yet. That is a way to become an RN :)
