  1. Hi there. I am a former English major currently completing the pre-requisites to get into nursing school. I have to say from reading the posts here for quite a while and following the scary trends in nursing now (more people going to nursing school, less people getting hired) I am getting pretty apprehensive. I am now starting to look at some of the technician programs at local community colleges (i.e. Ultrasound Technician, Respiratory Therapist etc). It seems like the pay is often close if not equal to nursing, without the level of stress. Also, many of the technical programs I am looking at seem to be in more of a demand. I guess my question here is two fold.. Have you ever thought about leaving nursing for another non-nursing position in the hospital? and If you were to move to another position (like Ultrasound Technician, Respiratory Therapist, etc), what would it be? Thanks! I will move this to pre-nursing forum if anyone requests.
  2. Hi everyone. I have a 2.5 undergraduate GPA in English and have taken 2 Psych courses, A&P and Chemistry at my local community college with a 4.0. Can anyone point me in the right direction of ABSN programs I should be considering? I should have some strong professor recs. I know my 2.5 puts me out of the running for most programs, and I am getting on the list for the ADN program at my community college, but I am interested in at least applying to a few ABSN programs. I live in North Carolina, but I am open to relocating. Suggestions of programs that I may be able to get into? Thanks!
  3. hey kelli, for some reason i can't send private messages, but i am very interested in the name of the professor you had. the cna class is my very last requirement to get on the waitlist at my local community college, so i am trying to do it as quickly as possible. i sent a friend request, maybe you can message me the name of the professor once i am in your contact list? thanks for the helpful post
  4. Just curious what type of background RNs applying to CRNA school typically have. Did you originally complete a BSN your first time around, or complete an ABSN program after finishing undergrad? If you went the ABSN route, what did you major in during your undergrad?
  5. ha! (cessnadriver). Thanks for the replies. It really makes sense that more than anything (even nursing courses), Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry and Physics grades are important.
  6. I will move to SRNA if you guys would like. I would just love some advice from practicing CRNA's. I'm been browsing several forum threads and getting pretty nauseous realizing what I have in common with nearly everyone on the board that has a low undergrad GPA. "Hey, I partied as an undergrad. I didn't know what I wanted to do. But I'm SERIOUS now! I'm FOCUSED!" Oye. My 2.5 is for my BA in English. I have since completed 5 science pre-rec courses at a local community college to get into an ABSN program. I have a 4.0 (Chemistry, A&P and Psych Classes). Assuming I graduate with my BSN with a 3.8-4.0, have good references, work experience and GRE scores, what are the chances of the 2.5 I recieved when I completed my BA coming back to haunt me? I've read a lot of the "Just keep it up! Anyone can get in with determination! Get good experience!", but I'm ready for the cold truth. No sugar coating please. Surely CRNA programs recieve enough applicants with impressive stats that a low initial undergrad GPA just makes it easy to narrow down the list?
  7. This post is inspired by the post on poop. Many of you said the original poster may want to look for a new profession! Will a Nurse with a RN do much of the "dirty" work, such as changing diapers, bedpans, etc ... or is that more something the CNAs and LPNs do? Has anyone on this board been squeemish about poop and blood, and made it past that to be a fantastic nurse who enjoyed their job?
  8. I recieved my BA in English in 2005. I graduated with a 2.5. I am planning on taking Science courses through a local community college and transferring to a BSN program once I have met the pre-recs. My long term goal is to obtain my CRNA. My question is ... to what extent will my 2.5 BA in English influence my chances at getting into a CRNA program? Frustratingly, the 2.5 is not from a lack of aptitude, but rather a lack of focus. If my BSN is significantly higher (3.8), and I have a strong GRE score, do I still have a shot at getting into a good graduate program? Thanks! christine
