Hey everyone,
I have a list provided from my school, but are there any suggestions for nursing apps, supplies, and tools that will help with studying in nursing school. I also have read that repetition is important when trying to memorize/conceptualize science subjects. Do you find that it is archived in your memory? Or do you have to study this stuff everyday for the rest of your career? I currently read everyday for any subject involving medical science, and I frequently find things that are related to what we learn in school. If anyone else has a similar experience please feel free to comment.
I would say it won't hurt to study and have a few things in mind. just make sure that you are using reliable sources to study. Go back over your A&P, that will help. I would honestly say relax a little before the program starts and you don't get the chance for a while. I didn't study anything before my semester started, I began fresh. But there are a ton of CNAs who already knew much more than me going in.
Hi, does anyone know if you purchase a i-pad or laptop for online classes that it can be a tax write off? thanks
It often must be exclusively used for school and required for school such as online or hybrid learning . You need to check with a licensed CPA, IRS certified tax professional or IRS call center. Most students don't meet the income & deduction level to itemize deductions to get significant benefit from such specialized deductions.

- Cable/broadband/DSL internet with a minimum speed of 1.5Mbps. You can test your local internet speed at www.speedtest.net. Run this test from the location you will be working from.
Higher bandwidth and speed will greatly assist you in your online learning environment, so where possible, a faster internet speed is recommended. Cable internet tend to be faster than DSL or 4G wireless, although DSL or 4G wireless may also work depending on other factors. Your computer, other software (such as anti spyware), other users on the system, and system configurations can all influence your ultimate line speed. Many instructors use videos as a part of their instruction, as well as synchronous meeting times (Skype, Adobe Connect, etc). Having an acceptable internet connection speed will be important to your success.
- Convenient access to a computer that has one of the following current versions of Internet Browsers:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Mozilla Firefox
- Google Chrome
- Safari

Possibly. That may or may not qualify. Some interpret that the computer must be exclusive for school nothing else. Know very few students meet the threshold for itemized deductions. It's a % of the value that may be a deduction. Most students only qualify for standard deduction it depends on your income & potential deductions.
Thanks JustBeachyNurse. Sorry for the many questions but when you mention some interpret that the computer must be exclusive for school nothing else, then the best way would be to get something from the teacher as well I suppose? I will have to look into it. Thanks again for all your help :)

That will mean nothing to the IRS. Is this online coursework? Exclusive use can mean your family cannot use the computer. No watching movies unrelated to school. The teacher can say what they want but it will have no baring on the determination as to whether you can utilize a portion of the cost in your itemized deductions. It's not a credit so for most students it's irrelevant.
It's not a write off but potentially part of the cost may be included in itemized deductions of your itemized deductions exceed the standard deduction.
The teacher is not with you 24/7 to ensure you only use the device for school activities.

Just Beachy is right: "exclusive use" means that in the most restrictive sense. Here's an example...
I have an iPad and a laptop that are strictly for work. (I'm a lecturer and professional tutor.). The laptop is only used by my C-Print Captionist. The only things on the laptop are the C-Print program, my antivirus software, and Google. Google is only used to access email, so that my Captionist can send me a copy of the C-Print transcript after the lecture. The only files stored on it are transcripts and materials/PPT's I use with different lectures. Period. My Captionist doesn't use the laptop to check her email or Facebook page. That's all, folks.
In addition, I have a dedicated iPad that only contains apps that I use when I'm teaching and/or tutoring. Since I teach in ASL, I end up making videos about core concepts. I use the Collaaj app for that, and then I post them on Blendspace. I also have my account from my dept's Dropbox on the iPad. Other than that, it's just educational apps, student portfolios, ASL dictionaries, and a Videophone app.
Some of my work is done as a self-employed consultant, so you better believe that the IRS checks up on my deductions. I've never had a problem claiming devices as business expenses. However, I have duplicate devices for personal use. Given Murphy's law and all, if I checked Facebook only once from a business-only device, that's when I'd be asked to provide the laptop and iPad for an audit! [emoji33]
In other words, unless you have an identical device for personal use and don't let anyone use your school iPad/laptop for anything, even to google a Pizza Hut menu. It just isn't worth the potential trouble.

I just paid attention when I read. It stuck to me I guess. The only time I used flash cards in micro was when I had to memorize several different kinds of antibiotics but I try not to rely on memorization at all.
