Nursing school supplies advice

Published

I'm about to start nursing school and I wanted some advice on what to buy and where to buy it. If anyone knows of any websites with nursing student supplies at a very affordable price I'd really appreciate it

I would wait to see what your school provides. Ours gave us a Littmann stethoscope, pen light, blood pressure cuff, bandage scissors, etc. (I can't even remember everything that was in the bag!) Our first set of scrubs were provided but many of us bought a second pair. (Our clinical nights ran back to back - getting home at 11:00 pm with class at 8:00 am, the last thing you want to do is wash your scrubs).

Anything you need beyond that, Amazon is your friend. However, be sure to check any uniform shops in your area. Our local shop gave a 25% discount to students on equipment and uniforms so their prices were competitive with Amazon.

Don't get hung up on buying a lot of "stuff". There are things you will never, ever use and things you will wish you had three of. Your school should be able to give you a good idea of what you truly need. The school might also have requirements about supplies and uniforms. For example, we had to wear navy blue scrubs and our shoes had to be ALL white.

One thing I can think of offhand to have multiples - pen lights. I went through at least 5 pen lights during clinicals. They break, the light bulb burns out, etc. And find a good black pen that you love. Then buy a bunch. :)

I bought some supplies from mybuynursingscrubsandstethoscopes.com, they had great prices and it shipped super fast. I also ordered my books from barnes and nobles they have a market place where you can buy used book got half my book for right at $100.00. :) Good luck getting your gear, it's exciting!!!

Thank you so much everyone. I really appreciate the advice. It was really helpful :)
