Nursing school suggestions for people with a low GPA

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am a current student, I just finished a bunch of pre-req classes but my GPA has suffered extremely due to family complications. I have 2.45 GPA and am looking to get into a generic BSN program this fall. I don't have any other degree either. Anyone know of any schools that will accept students even if their GPA is that low? PLEASE HELP!! I'm in desperate need!:crying2::confused:

I really sympathize with the OP's predicament - however I want to suggest a different way of looking at the who GPA thing.

Nursing school is hard, even for people who have stellar GPAs. It becomes an absolute horror if you don't have adequate preparation in basic sciences because there is simply no time to devote to remediation - you'll just get farther and farther behind. Also keep in mind that the grading scale for nursing programs is higher than the standard one, so you need to hit the ground running. PP advice to re-take those courses & achieve higher grades is by far the best route.

PLEASE don't mortgage your future by taking on the enormous debt associated with commercial (investor owned) school programs. There's just no way that a nursing salary would justify that debt load - especially these days, when a new graduate may be unemployed for quite some time before landing a job. If nothing else, you may want to explore other healthcare careers such as laboratory science or programs such as COTA. Nursing is not the only door to a satisfying career.

Please forgive my intrusion on a 'student only' thread ... Best of luck to all.

A&P 1 and 2, Chemistry, Microbiology. They will accept your nutrition

Will they accept a combined Anatomy & Physiology class? And I don't have Microbiology done. Is microbiology a pre-requisite course for admission to the program or do you complete the class while already in the program? And also do you know if their program starts in the winter or just the fall? Thanks for all your help! I really do appreciate it.

Congrats to you for completing your program and good luck on the NCLEX :nurse:

Thanks for the well wishes! Microbiology is a prereq that has to be done before you start the program. And yes, A&P is combined. So a&p 1 and 2 have to be completed. The entry times used to be Spring and Summer only. But I *think* they are making it only Spring entry now (I would call and find out)

Hi whats the name of the school in texas that you speak about ? please pm me

Specializes in Critical Care (ICU/CVICU).

It's Texas A&M International University, in Laredo Texas. It's a state funded school...not a "diploma mill" type school.

Please tell me which public BSN will accept me in Texas. I tried to PM you but it is not letting me. Thanks.

Is this school accredited? I'm an lvn with a 2.88 GPA.

Here is how I got a B+ in my first semester of nursing school using the best way nursing students don't share. multiple choice questions from the book you probably are using right now.

Would you be able to provide me a list the schools in Texas as well? I try to DM personally but there was not options to let me do so. Much appreciated in advance!
