Hello. A friend of mine who is an Egyptian-born American wants to study nursing in the Philippines. What nursing school would you recommend for him? Do you know any schools for 2nd coursers where teachers speak in English all throughout the class?

when will he/she start? i go to Silliman Univaersity and we have a middle eastern student nurse there(i saw only one)...medium of instructoin is enlgish but some teachers do not speak very well...thats how i see it, but there are a ot of american born students who go to Silliman University to study nursing...hurry up, if u want to start this school year you might want to expedite processing as they will only accomodate 250 students...

piece of advise...stretch your patience when you apply...it will help...dont mind all the inefficiencies, lack of coordination and so on...the education is all worth it...

heres the website http://su.edu.ph Silliman University is in Dumaguete City Philippines, there are a lot of Iranian and Korean students here but most of them are not into nursing. Cost of living for a foreigner wont be expensive(for a Filipino COL is high, the beauty of foreign exchange), there are apartments that range from 6000 to 11000 pesos per month(1 USD is around 40 Pesos), or he can ask around for and look for someone to share the apartment with and share the expenses...

He is going to need to apply to their program, get accepted, and then apply for a student visa or he will not be able to train there and attend school. Chances of getting that done in two months is impossible by the way that they do things there.

He also needs to know that he will be considered a foreign grad if and when he returns to the US, and will have to go thru all of the additional steps for licensure. When there are so many students now in nursing in the Philippines, close to 950,000 now, his clinical training is not going to be anywhere near what it will be if he trains in the US. And he is going to need to complete a full four year program there in order to be able to get licensed in the US.

And if he has a green card, and is out of the US for any extended length of time like this, he may not be able to keep his status, just something else to think about.

They are also having issues with many of the second courser programs there right now and many are not meeting the requirements of having any students able to pass the local exam there. I would make sure that your friend thoroughly checks things out, and he is going to find it hard to find a program where only English is spoken, no matter what the catalogue states for the school.
