  1. hi xasdas - 2nd courser here and I should say that I wont agree with the poster who said you must be prepared mentally, physically and all that. the better aspect should be flexibility and adaptability and you dont have to love nursing when you start taking it up, you'll learn to love it eventually, a lot of people you'll meet in nursing school will probably tell you that - Also, you just graduated last year and for a guy like you who just graduated, all you think about is work and how to find one(that pays a decent salary - if you could find one here in the Philippines) - but when you already find a job and things still dont fit the puzzle or workout after a year or so - you'll end up rethinking your options...that was me 2 years ago. What I did before I decided that I should be going to take up nursing was research a lot...these researches gave me a deeper insight as to what nursing could be in the future thus influencing my decision to take up nursing. I even influenced my classmate to go with me when I showed him some websites of my researches Another piece of advice i would also give to you is not to go to schools who give out diplomas as fast as 5 minute ID pictures, its not worth it...go to the top schools of the Philippines who accept second coursers...other wise it will be just another waste of time...well maybe unless ur a doctor you can just go to some instant nursing schools where you just add hot water to a piece of paper wait, and poof there comes a diploma...if not, better come to my school or a similar school which is a Center of Excellence for Nursing Ed Good Luck!
  2. heres the website http://su.edu.ph Silliman University is in Dumaguete City Philippines, there are a lot of Iranian and Korean students here but most of them are not into nursing. Cost of living for a foreigner wont be expensive(for a Filipino COL is high, the beauty of foreign exchange), there are apartments that range from 6000 to 11000 pesos per month(1 USD is around 40 Pesos), or he can ask around for and look for someone to share the apartment with and share the expenses...
  3. haha...its about public service...its been tought in nursing ethics...but the bottomline is...it will still be all about the money...LOL...anyways i am glad i went to nursing school...this way i can have a better chance of having a better life...
  4. hello kagome...yes i go to silliman but i dont consider myself a true blue sillimanian...i am not from suhs...dgt is not that peaceful snymore as you would think...theres been a lot of robberies and murder cases piling up...as for the nursing education, sucn would not be a coene if the education there is not topnotch...one thing i'd like to see sillimanians observe is that we all should have our feet planted on the ground...ive heard many sillimanians having an heir of superiority from other schools, but the thing is we al should keep a low profile...we dont want to have other schools saying that we are humbugs right? instead of criticizing and comparing our standards with other schools...we should strive for higher excellence and unite...better said than done thoug =)
  5. when will he/she start? i go to Silliman Univaersity and we have a middle eastern student nurse there(i saw only one)...medium of instructoin is enlgish but some teachers do not speak very well...thats how i see it, but there are a ot of american born students who go to Silliman University to study nursing...hurry up, if u want to start this school year you might want to expedite processing as they will only accomodate 250 students... piece of advise...stretch your patience when you apply...it will help...dont mind all the inefficiencies, lack of coordination and so on...the education is all worth it...
  6. what do you think ? Is this bill beneficial to future nurses and Filippino nurses for the US?
  7. thanks, how about non re-takers? where do they register?
  8. good to hear that...thanks all
  9. I hope our nurses here dont get affected by some lady who claims she's been raped by some US Marine! your view on tis? from People's Daily Online -- Rape case has difficult effect on Philippine-U.S. relations: U.S. ambassador Last year's rape case involving four U.S. Marines had a "difficult" and "emotional" effect on Philippine-U.S. relations, U.S. ambassador Kristie Kenney said here Tuesday. The U.S. government remains focused on seeing that justice is served, and working with the Philippine authorities to make sure the U.S. lives up to its obligations, Kenney said in an interniew with Philippine radio reporters. "The situation with the Marines is a difficult one and an emotional one and I understand that," she said. Meanwhile, the ambassador said that the bilateral relationship between the two countries is still strong and special. However, Kenney contested calls from Philippine public and lawmakers for the abolishment of the Visiting Forces Agreement, which governs the conduct of visiting U.S. soldiers in joint military exercises. "From my perspective I'm very happy that we have that kind of agreement that allows us to very quickly respond when the Philippine people need us to do so," she said, adding that a hospital ship of the U.S. Navy will arrive in May to give free medical treatment to indigent Filipinos. Four U.S. Marines remain in the Philippines though under U.S. embassy's custody, after they were accused and charged for raping a Filipina in Subic last November. The first formal court trial has been delayed for many times and the case itself was transfered last month from one local court to another.
  10. a friend of mine and me had some discussions today, and said that taking up nursing is risky right now specially with the Subic rape case issues, what are your views on this? IMO, this subic rape case issue won't harm the opportunity of Filipino nurses since the government is doing its best to keep Fil-am relations healthy. I just hope its going to end with a good note soon... Dont flame me for asking OK?

  14. see yah then, you're 33 yo? im 28 yo, well...i guess im not the oldest 2nd courser after all, dont worry though about being the oldest dindog, i know some other pips who are aged 40 and up and go to nursing schools...=) peace!i havent heard of dr lanting school, if its a good one, go for it...good luck and study hard my friend...keep in touch! im planning of resigning this march...so i hope everything turns out well after this!' thanks am17sg05 and mtreyes for the encouragement!, we'll surely put that in mind and use it to our advantage!
  15. its never to late dindog, i have compiled a couple of articles in this site to keep my hopes high, read it and maybe it will also help keep your hopes high. http://kccx.5.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=9, read the links in the second post of this thread, its not too late dindog, i am planning of going to Siliman next year. its already a 100% go for me unless something screws it up. by the way i am an engineering student...for details as to where i graduated what engineering degree i have just pm me. my advise to you is not to go to schools which offer speedy graduation at the expense of uncertainty and possible headaches due to the technicalities of their second courser curiculum...i would go to a reputable nursing school which will accept 2nd coursers. SU is one of them...my friend an eng technology grad will take up nuirsing in bacolod too...i think he picked USLS. well? see ya in the nursing world my fellow engineer grad!
