Nursing School Orientation

Published

Hi I'm starting nursing school to get my BSN in August. I was wondering what to expect when I go to orientation. I'm really excited and wondering what other people's experiences were like. :nurse:

They would give you an overview of the semester and what to expect. they would also hand out your syllabus and names of books you should buy if they havent told you that yet. The instructors would introduce themselves and there might be couple of students who is ahead of you to give their opinion of what study techniques worked for them and there might even be a presenation by sna. hope this helps:)

You might have a "med-math" test in your first weeks of school, and the instructors will also give you a heads-up on that and tell you which books to use to study.

You will be told of the various vaccinations, health clearances, and CPR courses that you must have beofre starting clinicals. For whatever reason, no one understands MMR and titers...

Then to get a taste of what nursing school is really like, listen to some of the questions your fellow classmates will have:

My CPR expired last month. Can I still use it because it was valid when I got accepted into the program....

Why do we have to wear uniforms? Scrubs are much cheaper!

One of the clinical sites is a mile from my house. Can I request that one?

Section (insert number here) is closed out, and I want to get in there because my friend's in it. Can you overload the section so I can get in?

If attendance isn't mandatory, then why do we have to sign in when we come to class?

Do we REALLLY have to buy all these books?

And that's the tip of the iceberg...

Thanks for all your imput. I'm so excited and can't wait til orientation and classes to start. :)
