I have been trying to buy some school supplies now and I just needed some advice. What really happens during orientation? Does the school provide us with some supplies like a planner, pens, etc.? What has anyone's experience with orientation been? I will be attending Nova Southeastern University in the fall but will like to know information from any school.
Great pointers everyone. I thought that the schools gave out planners as a welcome.
Looking at your school...and all the fees they charge it is highly unlikely they will provide anything for free.
What kind of "planner" are you tlking about...if you mean requirements timeline of your school...then yes they will give you all the information necessary like immunizations, criminal checks, physicals and a timeline of your courses. But that is about it.
I wouldn't expect any supplies. Some may hand out pens and pencils with the school's name on it but most do not. Sometimes there is a planner that you can get but it varies. I know the first day of school there is usually someone handing out planners like the student government, bookstore, or student activities but I wouldn't expect it. It's usually for all students. I would personally use a calendar like google for my planner since it sent me text messages. Very nifty.
Usually it's a long presentation and they talk about stuff that you probably won't remember. Usually it's about policies and more policies. Super boring. First orientation we had cookies and punch. Then it slowly decreased to half a cookie and punch to cookies and water, and then just water due to budget cuts.
Oh my goodness. I don't know anything about the school you are attending, but I can almost assure you that the school will not provide you with physical materials/supplies. They will provide you with information and knowledge about what to expect during nursing school.Free supplies...that's a good one.
Nova gives out a planner at orientation. At least every student at the Winter 2014 orientation got one.

My orientation is in late August, and the only thing they mentioned being free is the picnic they planned for our class. They have nursing shirts designed for our class for the Lovely price of $10.. I wish stuff was free lol For it to be from 9-4 I imagine it'll include a lot of talking.. With meet & greet opps ( our class is 80 people traditional & 32 2nd degree)
Long story short... Bring your check book, pen and paper!
