Nursing School?! I need your help nurses!

Published

So I am currently a freshman at a university and they have an amazing nursing program which is also very difficult to get into. I am currently a second semester freshman and I am on a business track. However, I've been having second thoughts about what I want to do with my life. I don't want to end up sitting behind a desk for hours, hating my life. I have always considered nursing to be an option and I've been seriously considering it. I am very intrigued by the medical field and am inclined to helping people. Therefore, I enrolled in a nursing chemistry class while also taking business courses. If I decide I want to apply to nursing, I need to do it soon!

This is a very difficult decision for me. Especially because I am paying 30k a YEAR to go here. If I apply to the nursing school and get in, I will have to start as a freshman next year. I am paying for college through loans. Is it worth the lost 30k and the extra year of schooling? Will I ever be able to repay the debt?

This is a 4 year BSN program.

I agree-- thank you so much for your input! Good luck with everything. I am glad you found your passion :)

Do what you want... I got a bachelors in health science and then immediately enrolled into a nursing program... I will have over 100k in debt but it's just money and I will be able to pay it off in 2.5 years and enjoy what I am doing! So I say go with your gut, and do what you feel will make you happy in the long rub

Definitely, cuz nursing school isn't for everyone. You might say, "enough of this !"

It is nothing to be ashamed of either. Personally, I would rather be a doctor and be respected. It's just so bogus. The instructors are usuall ex-nurses and very bitter and will transfer that onto to you personally. No joke. Esp if their "facility" is up for inspection. Then just run.

I would suggest if you havent already to work as a CNA prior to applying to nursing school. Make sure you would like being in the medical field dealing with the smells, sights, pressures first.

You have to be passionate about whatever you do. Nursing is a very broad field with an abundance of jobs and many different paths to take, so you should never be without work. However, that's no guarantee in these times. I will say nursing is a very rewarding career. That is a tremendous amount of debt that you would be looking forward to, however I believe the government does offer some sort of loan forgiveness for those of us working in public service after so many years. I'm not sure on the stipulations, but it wouldn't hurt for you to look into. Also some jobs offer tuition reimbursement. Where there's a will, there is a way! Good luck! And God bless!

If you want to do nursing switch now before you earn a degree. Sure it might "set you back" a year but once you get your first undergrad degree you are no longer eligible for federal grant programs and the financial aid options change. College isn't a race. Don't be ashamed to not "finish" in 4 years. A lot of people change majors multiple times. It took me 5.5 years to get my first degree, 2 years for my masters, and almost 10 years of work to figure out that nursing is what I really wanted to do. So now, I am halfway through my ADN. What state are you in? Yes your school is pretty expensive, but if you like it and you and your family can afford it and have no regrets then stay there.

I say say go on the path you feel most excited about. You like business, it's a very broad field. You can work almost anywhere, except medical field of course lol. Nursing is great. Some people realized they wanted to be a nurse when they were young, others at an older age. It doesn't matter if you waste money as long as in the end you are happy with your decision.

i say a good suggestion is watching a lot of those medical tv shows and see how "into" then you are. You will really see if medical field is for you.

for me I know I've always wanted to be a nurse because anything medical related has always interested me. It as either a doctor diagnosing people, a nurse helping someone walk, or researchers learning about diseases. Everything has always interested me. I've always wanted to help people.

Nursing school is a lot of work, but it's doable. Don't be scared if you think it's hard. Because if you really have. Passion for it, it won't be hard just a challenge you will get through and be happy in the end.

nursing is one of the best decisions I have made. I'm happy I pursued my dream and don't care about the money I spent on a different career path earlier. You want to feel that way in the end of school. No regrets.
