I'M GOING CRAZZZYYYY **TRYING** TO STUDY FOR THE NURSING ENTRANCE EXAM!!!!!!

And the bad thing about it is that the school gave me NO HINT about what to study for.

I picked up two books from Barnes and Nobles..........

They are LPN/LVN Pre-Entrance Exam and Nursing School and Allied Health Entrance Exams.

Not to mention that I borrowed three GED books from the library just yesterday.

The 3 hour test is on July 23rd.

Meanwhile, I'm looking through these books....and I see Science and Math and some Social Studies. OMG!

I'm 30 years old! I haven't been back to school since high school.

I've been in customer service for years....I need a career change! If I don't pass this test...My life will be crazy for another 15 years.

Is there anyone out there that took the entrance exam (no knowing if all entrance exams are the same).

I need help or some type of advice.

Is there something special I need to study? A special book? A special section?

Are these the right books I need?

Science....Atoms, Plants, Physcial Science, parts of the body

SStudies...years and dates of events,locations

Math........Fractions, percentage, graphs

spelling

I'M GOING CRAZY! I HAVE A HEADACHE EVERYDAY BECAUSE I WANT THIS SOOO BAD...HELPPPPPPPPPPP...lol

We don't need to pass an entrance exam so I don't have any real advice for you in order to help you pass.

I can say that you may need to re do some of your high school courses as a refresher. This test sounds difficult..... especially since you've been out of school for so long.

Good luck !

Hi there,

I took the NET not even knowing what topics would be on it. I don't recall any questions on social studies! The math part is kind of intensive - study how to do basic algebra, fractions, and percentages. The math starts off easy and then gets harder. If you were good in english in high school and a good reader don't even worry about that portion. The only part that was difficult for me was the math since I did not study at all. Don't worry about being out of school for a long time - I am in my late 40s and passed it. :)

We need to take a 4-6 hr test before beginning the nursing program, but it is just to see how well we understood our pre-nursing classes. They said that it doesn't count against our admission at all, :uhoh21: but is for their own information...

Where I go to school we had to take the Compass test be accepted if we had not taken ACT. As for nursing school we had to pass all their requirements and be accepted. Is it a COMPASS test that you are taking? If so it is algebra, reading and english. The more answers you got right the more questions it thru out at ya. I had been out of school 23 years when I took it and had never even had algebra, and I got a 97 on English, 89 on reading and 82 on algebra, percent that is. Total possilbe percent was 99 % on each one.

IMO, you should call your school and find out the name of the test you are taking. I know of the NET (Nursing Entrance Test) and the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) test, and I'm sure other schools use tests other than these. Once you know which test you can focus your studying. The NET test authors offer a study guide which is a VERY close match to the actual test. I am 32 and also returned to school after many years, left customer service, and needed a major refresher. I scored very high on the NET test solely with the help of the study guide. I cannot imagine that your school would keep the name of the test a secret, so find out the test and buy a book specific to that test. I purchased a sort of generic entrance test book from Amazon and must say, it was a waste of money. It was great as a refresher, but did little to prepare me for the NET test.

Just my 2 cents.

The test used in my area is the NLN & you can buy a study guide. It is RN Pre-Entrance Exam by Mary E. McDonald. My book is a couple of years old the isbn # is 0-7637-1062-8. Good Luck!

And the bad thing about it is that the school gave me NO HINT about what to study for.

I took the NET. As others have stated the math is pretty much basic. Addition, subtraction etc. It get's into basic algebra near the end of the section. The main emphasis seemed to be on reading and comprehension. I was lucky, that's my strongest area, math being my weakest. It helps if you are a fast reader. It seemed like a lot of people were not finished the reading section before time ran out. I didn't use a study guide. I hadn't planned on taking the test and did so at the last minute so there was no time. If I were to study for it I would say a basic guide with reading comprehension and basic math would be good. Good luck!
