Nursing School Dismissal

Published

Hi,

I was dismissed from my nursing program (BS) for failing two courses. My dismissal appeal was denied. I am looking all over the web to find other nursing schools to apply to. However, many of them do not accept applications from students who have been dismissed from their nursing program within the past 5 years.

I was a third year student in a four year program. Now, I am left with nowhere to go and no bachelors degree.

Could anyone help me please?

Hi,

I kind of know how you feel. I failed a nursing course in my second semester of the first year. I was in a 4 year BSN program in Canada. I had the same problem finding schools who would accept me after failing a nursing course. After alot of searching, I found a school that accepted me and gave me the benefit of doubt, and sure enough I have just graduated with an associates degree in nursing. I'm not too sure where you are from, but if you are willing to relocate, I would try schools in upstate NY. Good luck. Hope this helps!

You can look into Excelsior on line, if you were this far along you can finish up with them, however, check and make sure your state's BON will accept Excelsior I know NYS does.

It says I need to have completed 50% of my clinical courses, which I have not. I have only completed 1 semester of clinicals.

I also reside in New York.

AHHH, I am scared out of my mind and don't know what to do with myself.

Search archives in allnurses I remember someone with a similar story who found a school in upstate NY who transferred them in from another school from which they were dismissed

Well a friend of mine flunked out of my school and got accepted at cochran school of nursing he had to start over in his nursing classes but they accepted all his prereqs, also an option is to finish you BS in another discipline, biology, chemistry, business whatever, talk to your advisement department, and then apply to a accelerated BS to BSN, or go the LVN route.

This is the direction I would head... give you an opportunity to prove yourself and to acquire additional knowledge. Another academic field to consider would be public health.

Do you mind telling me which school in upstate ny you got accepted to and when? I live in westchester county. At this pt, I think im willing to relocate to wherever just as long as a nursing school accepts me. So far, the associates programs I looked into also have the same policy of not accepting previously dismissed students. Please let me know if you can.

Are you willing to relocate? I looked over CT's community college nursing program and didn't see anyting about those who have been dismissed.
