Nursing school--credit report??

U.S.A. Kansas

Published

OK, now that the excitement over getting an acceptance letter has passed, I'm a little freaked out.

Some of the stuff they are asking for is making me nervous. Health history, I understand. Dental records...? A little bizarre, but OK. Credit report?? WHAT???

Anyone have any insight as to why they need to know whether or not I am having trouble paying my bills while I am a student (which I am)? Surely they wouldn't decide I'm unfit for the nursing program based on that? Also, I don't have health or dental insurance...could this adversely affect my acceptance?

Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid, but I can't help but wonder why they would ask for this information if it was inconsequential.

I don't know which school you are applying at, but I think I would be offended if they asked for my credit report. This was not a requirement for Barton County Comm College. However, there is paperwork you have to do for financial aide, but even they didn't need a credit report.

The health insurance you might have a problem with though. That was a requirement at Barton and the physical and updated shot records are normal. Dental... don't know why they care about that either. Most colleges do offer health insurance for students at a discount price, so it will be important to find out if they do that.

Maybe they want to know if you are going to pay your school bills ... and that you are reliable and dependable in your business dealings with the world. Nursing school is expensive and they need to know that you can and will pay for it and not leave them having to write off your debts to them.

I am sure they are used to the fact that students don't have a lot of money. But they probably want to know that you manage your financial affairs responsibly and don't leave your debts unpaid.

Where are you accepted to? I know at Wichita State, they did a background check (you cant work in hospitals w/ a felony is the reason they gave). As for insurance, WSU gave us links to a website and a phone number to get health insurance if we didn't have it, so I dont know if thats an option at your school. hope it helps! good luck!
