Nursing school does some crazy things to my body....

Published

Ever since I began nursing school 6 weeks ago, it has thrown me into a nervous/anxious wreck full of acne, diarrhea, heart palpitations, frequent urination (I get that when I am nervous/stressed)....It's driving me crazy. I know I am normally an anxious person, but even in my teenage years I must have gotten only a few pimples. Now I am getting them like crazy. New ones erupting everyday. I swear I "go" 4-5x/day and have an urge to urinate every 1.5 hours on the dot!

I am doing pretty well in NS, I just wish I could calm the heck down! How do you handle the stress effectively? :icon_roll

Ugh, I can so relate. I always wake up during the night before clinical and check my alarm religiously to ensure I wont be late. I also play out potential clinical scenarios in my head. I also have extremely bad GI upset before I head in for my first shift. But despite all these annoyances, the WORST one for me is the acne I developed being in nursing school. Its not a few pimples here and there - my face is a full-blown minefield of red, angry pimples. I eat a healthy diet and exercise (which are great stress relievers) but no matter what I cannot get my acne under control. I am getting married next summer, and I am trying desperately to clear my face up by then. Its weird, even in the summers between nursing semesters, it doesn't go away :(

Exercise does wonders :) Back when I was in high school, I was on alprazolam for anxiety. I wound up getting into weightlifting, and later competitive bodybuilding, and all of sudden my anxiety was gone, I could sleep at night, and I could "roll with the punches" easier.

If you want to try it out, but you're not sure where to begin, PM me.. I'm working through college as a personal trainer :)

I can totally relate to what you're going through. I have heart problems and anxiety disorders to begin with. NS is NOT helping. But it is worth working through. It helps me just to remember that what I am feeling is normal for someone who's really anxious. Everyone here seems to have some great advice. Thanks everyone!!

I def understand what you are going through. I am a last semester senior in BSN program and I don't think I've ever been this stressed. I've been getting palpitations too, currently being evaluated by cardiologist just to make sure it's nothing due to cardiac history in my family. I think I'm a little sleep deprived. In fact, I got dressed in my sleep for clinical at 330 this morning and was making breakfast when my roommate got up to get a drink and saw what I was doing and snapped me out of it. It kinda scared me that I can do all that in my sleep. Oh the life of a nursing student.
