Nursing School Choice Advice

I am still taking prereqs but I wanted to get some opinions. Background: I am a teacher and that's how I am paying my bills. The two options I am considering:

A) apply to a BSN program that is part time. I would be able to go to class two nights a week with clinicals on the weekends. I could still work full time. However, the school is an hour away from my city, its a private college (very expensive), and the NCLEX scores haven't been the best for past three years. I talked to someone at the school that promise me that the school had gotten full accreditation from conditional approval.

B) apply to this BSN program that I wouldn't be able to work fulltime. I would have to find someway to supplement my income with my husband. The school is 15 minutes away, its a public school, and the NCLEX scores have been great.

I have a son who would be 3 by the time I would start school and a husband who is a teacher. What would you choose?

I think this is a pretty personal decision. If you can make either situation work, then it's really just a matter of prioritizing what is most important to you at this point in your life. It's a delicate balancing act trying to make time for work, school and family.

That said, I would be wary of a school with low NCLEX percentages. And, are you saying that this school with low NCLEX scores is also not accredited? For me, those are two red flags.

Hi Halcyonn! The school has full accreditation but the nursing program was put on conditional approval. My heart wants option B but option A is the realistic choice.
