Nursing School Age 49?

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi. I would like to get some input on this. I have always, always wanted to be a nurse; I was accepted at a few nursing schools in the early 70's but didnt' attend due to some bad choices I made at that time. I am still very much interested in nursing but I'm 49!!! Am I way too old? In your classes did you have students my age? It is my lifelong dream yet I don't know if I should apply to the schools in my area. Help! And thanks for any input. I really appreciate it!

I had many people in my class (1990 grad), that were fiftyish. I was in my thirtys and did fine. Personally I think it's an advantage in some ways because you are certain of your career choice. All the best and go for it!

I have to agree with everyone else and say "GO FOR IT!". There were older students in my class (in their 40's) and they were a hoot! Also, one of the male students in my class was in his mid forties and challenged the exam a year early and passed. He has been working for the past 2 years in a large hospital and will be taking his MCAT next month because he now plans on starting med school. Follow your dreams!
