Nursing school or not? ADN or BSN?

Published

I recently moved to Charleston SC and am considering going back to school for nursing. I already have my bachelors degree in fashion marketing/business. I am registered for an ADN program here, but after researching I am thinking I should be going the accelerated BSN route. Only two schools offer that here that are very competitive, expensive, and hard to get in. Would I be better getting my ADN and then going to online school for RN to BSN? I am 29 years old and am concerned about waisting time/money on school, but I really want to be a nurse. Thank you!!

Make sure the ADN program in accredited, ACEN or CCNE.

If you already have the prerequisites for a BSN program done, I say go for the BSN... ADN programs are helpful because they usually include prerequisites if you still need to finish them, and benefit people who are just starting to get their first degree... If you can get into the BSN program and have all the requirements, then just go straight to it.

Im applying the ADN to save money and look for a job while I go back to school for BSN. It depends on what works best for you. I would apply for both that way all your eggs are not in one basket. It also depends on who you know. I know a handful of nurses at different hospitals from my current job that can put in a good word for me. A know a nurse who does have her ADN but the hospital she works act did tell her she has to get her BSN so she went back to school and works. Im sure the manager or whoever is interviewing you will work with you if they know you do plan on going back or already in school. Its not how you finish as long as you finish in my opinion when it comes to the ADN vs BSN.
