I am male specialist in neonatal nursing and I do not think that the quality of nursing service is related to gender

I totally agree. There are good and bad female nurses, and there are good and bad male nurses. A person's sex and gender does not determine his or her competence in nursing.

Totally agree, the quality of nursing doesn't nothing to do with the gender of the nurse. I have 3 friends that are male nurses and let me tell you they are amazing. There patients love them and they are awesome team players. When I was in school I met a male nurse, in the ICU unit, who was taking care of a very ill elder women like she was his mom. This patient family was so please with him that they requested the nurse manager to have him as the only nurse for their love one.

"Gender" isn't a biological trait; it is a social construct which varies per culture. Women have the ability to be mechanics and construction workers, just was men can be passionate nurses or secretaries. In our efforts to label the group, we overlook the abilities of the individual. I say kudos to those who walk against the grain.

I agree, professionalism, passion and pride in ones occupation has no gender preference. we (male and female) all can be exceptional nurses if we are dedicated enough.

I have employed many excellent male nurses in my long term care facility. In fact, I prefer them! Men come to work on time, take their assigned breaks, and punch out on time, having been able to complete all of their work in the allotted 8 hours. Why? Because men don't have cramps and don't care about what everyone did over the weekend. Men don't care to spend time gossiping or catching up on the latest "drama" that's going on. They come to work, they take care of their residents, and then they punch out and go home. And they give excellent care and follow up and follow through with each and every task in a compassionate and professional manner. I'll take male nurses any day!!!

I dont totally agree, I agree! I psych'd nurse for 25 years, loved it. I did battle with admin, doctors with ego problems, but in the end, I gained their respect since I did my research and stood my ground. We worked well. If you cant find work here in North America or non hospital jobs..go off shore.

I know this must be tongue-in-cheek, because not all women are like you describe. Not every woman cares about others' drama, not every woman participates in that. Are you insinuating that women are ineffectual and can't organize, as they stay late or are late to start their job? That's funny to make any stereotypical generalization. Based on your theory, that would be safe to assume that all men are chauvinistic, arrogant, philandering fools, which we know is not true. What you describe as your "male nurse" is exactly what I am, as a female. Gender aside, it's all about the individual. Just as sexual orientation has nothing to do with your job, neither does your gender.

There are traits assigned to gender, some are displayed more prominently than in others (some women are muscular, some men are not, etc). It's not cut and dry and to assume that is purely ignorant. It takes all kinds to operate in any business, nursing included.

aye, true, laddie! Hang your ego at the door, and do the job your getting paid to do. Discuss problems over a beer! We are having more off shore immigrants coming to work in North America, nothing has changed in over a 100 years, except when desperate, we call out foul in form of racial, sexual, or anything else you can through out.

I know this must be tongue-in-cheek, because not all women are like you describe. Not every woman cares about others' drama, not every woman participates in that.

And for anyone who says that men aren't drama queens, I have worked with several exceptions.
