Nursing as a 3rd career

Published

Hi Everyone! I just joined this morning since I have an interest in becoming a nurse.

I recently relocated with my husband for his job as a fellow in a very competitive specialty after residency. I want to take this opportunity of living in a new city to explore my new career path.

I taught 3rd graders for two years before realizing teaching wasn't for me. Then I started working in adult education and eventually made my way into working in medical education. I enjoyed the work but I still have this desire to directly help people and make a difference.

My husband it's totally supportive of me applying to nursing school. I searched online and saw there are accelerated options available for people who already have a Bachelors degree. What are the pros/cons of these accelerated programs? Also, I'd love to get input from nurses who became a nurse later in life. I'm 29 years of right now and we don't have kids. I feel like if I'm going to go back to school, I should do it before we have kids.

There are quite a few threads comparing accelerated to traditional BSN programs if you use the search tool you should be able to find them. In my opinion, a BSN from an approved nursing program is what matters, it doesn't matter if it is accelerated or traditional.

I started nursing school at your age. 23 years later I can say it was a good choice.
