Nursing Program at Hunter College NLN Score

U.S.A. New York

Published

hey everyone! I'm currently a student at hunter college and am applying for the nursing program for Fall 2010. I am taking the NLN tomorrow and am very nervous! I know the test is computer based and you can get your score as soon as your finished taking the test. I know there have been NLN exams going on since Monday. I was wondering if people wanted to share their scores (totally anonymous) just so we can get idea of what the high-low scores are. I hope everyone did well and I hope to see you in the program this fall!:nurse:

Hi there,

Does anyone know how Hunter readjusts the GPA?

Thanks.

Hunter get rid off the plus and minus, that's about it. And your GPA would be 50 percent. Then there's ur NLN score, another 50 percent. They add these two numbers together come up with a new number, then organize everyone into a list. Top 100 gets in the program. It's that simple. IMO, it's not scientific AT ALL!

I am not a Hunter student but have read your posts with interest. All you guys have great NLN scores! :) I was wondering if you can tell me how you prepared for the exam (study guide?), and whether you got these scores the first time you took the exam. If you took it more than once, how many times did you take it?

Does your school rank based on "Composite Score" or the Composite Percentile Score? My school could care less about the composite score; they first look at the "All" composite percentile score and then the "All" in the verbal percentile score.

I appreciate your input.....and good luck to all of you!!!

You can buy review books for study. (I have 3 of them, if you want, i can sell you all 3 for 20 bucks, lol, they cost me $60 never written anything in them). They are mostly basic stuff, except English, just like SAT, you need to build ur vocabulary base. Which school do u go to? How can they look at ur percentile score while it's based on previous years statistics??? That does not make sense at all. And a composite score of 150 and 155 are virtually in the same percentile... weird...

Hi Speedingticket,

Whooops!! I should have mentioned that I'm from the Chicago area. I'm amazed how different states, different schools do things so different!!

My school totally emphasizes the composite percentile score "all" and the verbal "all". Their GPA requirement is a 2.50 overall. They will only go down to GPA if there are applicants with the same percentile score AND verbal score, so at that point they'd compare GPA and that would be the deal breaker.

The last few semesters there's been quite a few scores in the 90+ range. The school requirement is 60, but I think that's going by the wayside cuz there's so many people scoring much higher than that.

I took the exam once and got an 89 :crying2: ......if I don't get accepted I'd have to retake it, and WILL HAVE to get in the 90's like you guys did!!

hey everyone that posted their scores and goes to hunter. did anyone get any emails from hunter yet? i know we're supposed to receive an email from hunter confirming that they received our application. any word yet?

I didn't get any e-mail. But I went to the admissions office recently and handed my copy of the NLN results. The secretary told me to type in my social and I think she entered my scores in the computer so I assume that they have my application.

hey everyone! i am also anxiously waiting to hear back from hunter nursing school!

i have a 3.8 gpa but i think i did badly on the nln :( i got a 135.. which is definitely not what i was aiming for. i just ran out of time because they changed the date!

i was just wondering.. we didnt have to hand in our nln scores or anything right??

thanks

Hey fellow Hunter students! I'm not applying yet, still just a lowly freshman. I was just wondering about how many people applied this year, given that there were only 100 seats? In many of my classes, at least half of the class says they intend to major in nursing! I am bit worried about next year and what the numbers will be like then.

don't get psyched out by the amount of people applying. concentrate on getting your A's. people will start dropping like flies. trust me!

Hey alinasept! Every year around 200 to 400 people apply. Don't worry about the amount of people that are saying they are planning on applying. A lot will change once you guys have taken A & P part 1. Have you taken orgo yet? Start studying for the NLN now!! Good luck:)

Hey firstt offff good luckk to alll u. I hope u guys make it. Just applyed for hunter college for nursing as transfer student I have most of my pre requiste ffor nursing so what classes should I expect before applying for nln or registering for bsn rn. Or how does it have to go I m confuse and if anyone can help me thanks. I just want to noe wat I should expect it.

hi bhutanpride24! When did you transfer to hunter? Fall 2009? What kind of pre reques did you fulfil already? When you say what to expect what exactly do you mean? Like the classes you have to take or what the actual nursing program is.

Hey annag. You're right and I guess many people will change their minds once they see where their GPAs are headed. A friend of mine actually switched to something else this year b/c of the competition. I'm taking orgo right now with an unfortunately terrible professor, but luckily I took orgo in high school so I usually understand his mumbled and confusing lectures. I was definitely planning to get a study guide from now for the test as well. Once midterms are over I'll be looking into that.

hey anna g, i am a transfer for this fall 10, not 09 and thanks for responding so fast to my concerns. Anyhow, i took A&P 1, now taking 2 in laguardia I also took General Psychology, english, urbansociology, and my gpa is not that good is 3.2 and if A in this class 3.3, i also took many more classes but decided i am transfering and applying for the candidacy of bsn rn in hunter. I am going to try really hard including nln and I was just hoping to see what classes hunter holds for me in the beginning of september if i am a transfer. Thanks.
