I almost finish w/ all my pre-req to get into the nursing program at hostos cc. I still have to take aandp 2 and chemistry(will take microbio while in the program). My concern is that i have 3.0~ GPA and am not sure that i can get into the program. Am planning to take some easy classes to improve the gpa, but i know that here a hcc they focus more on the science classes and the nclex+the other nursing exam(dnt remember the name). Is anybody in the same situation as me, it does not matter if is not the same school. Please if somebody knows about any school accepting nursing stundets with 3.0~gpa in nyc or any place around let me know. Thanks (the reason why i got 3.0 gpa is because i have 3 B-)

Try to get A's in your remaining prereq. classes. Score >135 (99 percentile) in NLN exam and > 75 in ATI exam. I am starting my clinicals from Fall 2012. If you want to increase your GPA you can retake one class (department give permission to repeat only one class) and get A in it. Best of luck.

Hi, I was just accepted into Hostos Nursing Program and I can tell you that they really do not focus on your gpa. It just needs to be 3.0 or above. What they do focus on is the ATI score. You need to pass the nln first. You don't even need a great score, just get a 99 (50th percentile). After you take the nln you'll take the ATI and this is where you need to shine. Hostos picks their nursing students based on who gets the highest scores on the ATI. Once they have all the ATI results, the nursing committee will meet and decide who gets in. Base on the scores they will decide a cut off point. Hostos requires applicants to score in the 35th percentile on the ATI. Lets say 40 students take the test and 15 people don't make the 35th percentile, or score in the high 30s and 40s, while the rest score at least 50 and as high as 80 on the ATI. Hostos will decide a cut off point and pick students who scored at the cut off point or higher. In the event that two or more students have identical score, hostos will use the students gpa to determine which student gets in the program until all seats are filled. Hey everyone I'm just going to give some advice for those of you who are trying to get into the nursing program at Hostos CC in the Bronx.

Im a former nursing student and its not what you may think it is. Your basically paying to teach yourself because the professors there basically have you do everything on your own.

They barely teach you anything and most of the nursing faculty is unorganized and rude to the students.

The skills lab is a joke they barely have any equipment to work with which is old and outdated to practice and the technician to teach the skills is also disorganized and wastes the class time.

I've tried to find some good in the program altogether but the director of the nursing program didn't even know what was going on during the time I was in the program she was also disorganized.

So basically your getting what you pay for. Overall if your about to be done with your pre-Reqs and don't want to transfer I would advise to apply for the night program because the faculty for the night program has more respect for the students and care about people passing the program.

Other than that I would advise people not to waste their money and find a better program and if you still consider going I would advise not to apply for the day program but go for the night program.

Is this program accredited?

I am a present student at Hostos Community college LPN program, I graduate in two weeks. As I have noticed in the past comments the program is tough but doable looks most programs, the school gets good passes on the Nclex on both LPN and Rn programs. I do agree with one past student the facility and staff are rude and disorganized but not all the professors. We just lost one of the best professors for the LPN program, she was the LPN professor, but she was an advocate for both RN And her children which she can

Led her LPN students, she was love. I was planning to do my Rn there but I have changed my mind, upon the orientation to the program the professor who welcomed us into the program was harsh and nasty, I did one class with her and if you are faint of heart it won't be easy for you to deal with her. The school is a good school but the nursing program is, I guess how you look at it. I did not enjoy my time in the nursing program, except for the few professors who were advocates for the students and pushed them forward.
