Hi everyone...I am a first year student with an assignment to interview some seasoned nurses on the following:
"Explain how you use the nursing process in your job." &
"What purposes do you see for creating individualized nursing care plans?"
Any input from anyone out there is greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Lin

Probably most every nurse uses the nursing process without even knowing it, every day. I work in home care and I can give you one example from just today. I was seeing a lady for one kind of wound, but she informed me about another one (one that the 1st nurse who saw her didn't observe, unfortunately). So I did an assessment of the wound, developed a plan (assess wound daily, get orders from md), implemented (called md, got a culture, got an appt to see md), evaluate- will be done daily with other dressing change and will await further orders after culture gets back. Everybody needs an individualized cp because everybody is different. I don't believe I've ever seen any 2 people with same diagnosis that have exactly the same nursing needs. Different culture, age, other medical problems, etc. Hope this helps.

Isearl, your point about us using the Process without really thinking about it is so true, I fully support your concept, regarding individual NCPs, as each person's needs are different
