Nursing prioritys... who would you be your first priority

Published

Who would be ur first priority.. a

toddler with 24 breaths/min

neonate with 38 breaths/min

8 year old with 14 breast/min

older adult with 12 breaths/min

Let me fix the title before someone bashes... "who would be your first priority"

Hi Holly

I am not going to give you the answer you desire... just encouragement to stop and think... Have a look at the normal reference ranges for breaths/minute by age range - you will see your answer without needing any more assistance.

How do I know which range to use??? Every source I refer to has different ranges. The one I'm looking at now shows ALL these pts to be within normal range. Is there some magic NCLEX source I should use?

Those look like normal ranges to me. Of course, it's 5am and I don't have my nursing books handy :D

Im just wondering because it was one of my test questions.... not trying to look for a quick fix here its been done and over with.. I was just wondering. I choose 38 breaths/min for the neonate, as a guess...

My book shows the 8 year old as slightly under but not by much.

I keep finding different sources on the net though. If this is for your class your text should have parameters in it, I would go off those since your lecture and tests should be from your book.

the 8 year old

Definitely the 8 year old.

DAMN!

Thanks guys!

yea the 8, cuz babies tends to have higher respiratory rate, and older adults have abit slower rate, the 8 years is the one with the biggest difference between the norms
