Hi Holly
I am not going to give you the answer you desire... just encouragement to stop and think... Have a look at the normal reference ranges for breaths/minute by age range - you will see your answer without needing any more assistance.

How do I know which range to use??? Every source I refer to has different ranges. The one I'm looking at now shows ALL these pts to be within normal range. Is there some magic NCLEX source I should use?

Those look like normal ranges to me. Of course, it's 5am and I don't have my nursing books handy
Im just wondering because it was one of my test questions.... not trying to look for a quick fix here its been done and over with.. I was just wondering. I choose 38 breaths/min for the neonate, as a guess...

My book shows the 8 year old as slightly under but not by much.
I keep finding different sources on the net though. If this is for your class your text should have parameters in it, I would go off those since your lecture and tests should be from your book.

yea the 8, cuz babies tends to have higher respiratory rate, and older adults have abit slower rate, the 8 years is the one with the biggest difference between the norms
