Got an order for IM Talwin last night, pharmacy called that they didn't carry that nor heard of it

Old drug. When it was first on the market doctors would prescribe it by the bottle as it was considered not habit forming. Pentazocine (sp).

C IV DEA. Orally it's combined with Naloxone because formerly it could be crushed and mainlined for a speed rush.

It's still is around and is a very effective analygesic but it got a bad rep years ago as an abuse drug. It was known as "T"s and "blues"- for Talwin and Ritalin mixed together. Supposed to be very simular to heroin. They added naloxone to the tablets to keep the junkies from shooting them (they would go into immediate withdrawl) but the drugs reputation was shot already. I did hear it used to come in an injectable form but have never seen it.

There's an antihistamine (yellow pill) they used to insist on taking with po Talwin when it was pink.......called it a speedball. Talk about bouncing off the walls.
