Nursing Organizations?

Published

I am a recent new grad and will be starting my first job in the emergency department, where I have been a tech for over 7 months. During school, we had several discussions in classes regarding nursing associations i.e. why you should join, why people don't, etc. Anybody out there (members or not) with a strong feeling about this?

Thanks!!

Ca.Nursing Asso is just out for pledges of money. They do not support professional nursing, education or development.

I recommend ANA and if your state has a chapter I recommend you be involved. Also, ENA is an excellent choice for an ER nurse. Both asso. offer ways for you to grow and learn and are involved in evidence based research.

How exactly, did you come to that conclusion? California Nurse Association, achieved staffing ratios, for bedside nurse, advocacy for the bedside nurse, they provide continuing education for nurses, achieved pay, benefits, and a pension that you can actually retire on.

What more do nurses need?

If you really want to join ANA, go ahead. As far as I am concerned, when it comes to issues that affect nurses directly, and improving the quality of life of the bedside nurse, as we say in Brooklyn, the ANA is about as useful as tits on a bull.
