Anyone heard from Deaconess about summer start admissions?

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I just wanted to see if anyone has heard from Deaconess regarding whether they were accepted or not for summer? I put my application in back in February and was told I would know something on Friday, April 1. I emailed the admissions rep, but still haven't heard anything. Anyone else in the same boat?

Thanks!

If you go to the Deaconess website, you will find clinical manuals that you can download. These state what you need from the hospital and nurse preceptor for each clinical course. Print those out and attach a nice letter to the hospital about who you are, what you are planning to do at Deaconess, etc. I always try to contact the nurse educator. If you don't know who that person is, call human resources and ask them.

Again, Good luck

Thanks for the encouragement, I didn't let them know that I had a place in mind for my clinicials, however I was pretty sure I would be able to do it there, but I had not be given the OK.I wasn't sure just how to approach the hospital. This a hospital that allows alot of other medical and nursing students to do their clinicals there, so I don't think there will be a big problem, just developing or puting a packet together to present to them and knowing who to give it to is where I am right now. I wasn't sure if I should approach the hospital before I got accept or not, I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to give them a heads up and and at least get their approval ! I will try my best to be patient and wait until I hear back from Deaconess. I am so excited though,, and afraid if I don't get in this time, will I be able to get in the next time? thanks for the feedback and help

Has anyone hear any thing new relating to the new start or the adding of 20 extra students? Still waiting to get some kind of reply back from Deaconess admission one way or the other if I have made for the next time or if I didn't why and what I have to do? Those that applied has everyone heard back yet? Is this type of reaction typical for deaconess( meaning if you make it you find out and if you don't, you don't every know)?

In my admissions packet from Deaconess, it said that if I didn't pay my deposit by May 9th, I would lose my spot in the upcoming summer 05 class. I already paid mine, but maybe they are waiting to see if someone doesn't pay their deposit by that date and then they will choose additional people? I don't know for sure, just a thought. I think summer classes start on May 23, so hopefully you will hear something shortly.

I plan to go to DCN to drop off my packet today, I will ask when I go in.

I think Marci makes an excellent point. They probably don't want to tell people "no" until they have confirmation that all accepted will attend.

I just spoke to DCN admissions and specifically asked if they were waiting for state approval to add 20 more students to their program. They said yes that is what they are waiting for and that they didn't know even which way it was leaning.

Hi Kelly,

What do you mean by the school is waiting for state approval? Does that mean that the online portion isn't approved by the state or the board of nursing? Do you how that would effect those that attend online out of state?I not sure if you will know this or not but will that prevent others from going there to school or using the online portion? I am alittle disappointed that I have heard nothing from the school not email a phone call or a letter, nothing that seems so strange to me. I am still going to apply in for the January start ( 2006) and pray that I get accepted in to that group.

I wonder if all the changes are just normal or because of the buyout?

Oh, well thanks for keeping us informed. :)

carly,

no, every nursing school, online or not, has a set amount of students that they allowed to take. if i understood them correctly, deaconess is trying to increase their number to accommodate more applicants and this increase would require the states stamp of approval. dcn is fully approved by the state and almost all other states recognize their program. i was told that california, new york and one other state (the advisor couldn't remember specifically which one right off top of her head) somewhere in the south are the ones that do not recognize the dcn program.

in an earlier post futuredcnnurse suggested that the reason some may not have heard anything yet could be due to dcn waiting for tuition deposits for those who have been accepted so far. if someone doesn't pay then that would open up a door for someone perhaps like yourself.

i am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Hi carly0313-

I recieved a call from my admissions counsler last night(Germany time) and I GOT IN!!!!!!!!! I got in though because someone decided not to start this semester. They are still waiting for info about the additional 20 students, but still no news yet. Are you keepng in touch with your admissions counsler? I think by me e-mailing and calling everyday helped me get in.

I would call your counsler and talk to them. Keep you fresh in thier heads so in case someone else decides not to start this semester, you can take that spot.

Don't give up hope!!!!!!

I got "everything" crossed for you!

Angela

Congratulations Angela! I'm so happy for you :balloons:

Good luck and I hope to see you this summer!

I would like to say congratulations to everyone that was accepted for the summer semester and I would also like to encourage those that are still waiting to hear to keep calling and not give up.

I just returned from St Louis yesterday evening, where I completed my clinical validation for Life Span I (OB & PEDS). Overall it was a good experience and I had the chance to get to meet the professors and my classmates for the first time. I learned so much and most of all I gained alot of confidence in myself and in the Deaconess program. We did our validations at St. John's Mercy Medical Center and we were very well received. Our class was split into groups and then each of us were assigned a PEDS patient and then the next day we were assigned a Postpartum Mom or a Newborn in the Nursery. The facility is awesome and I was very impressed.

Note: There was someone here asking about students in WASHINGTON...well one of my classmates was from WASHINGTON...so I guess that confirms that DCN does accept students from that area of the country.

Best Wishes to you all...

Cheri
