I'm at the end of my rapidly unfraying rope trying to find a nursing journal article relevant to the teaching project I am preparing for my clinical transition course. I will be training nursing assistants in a nursing home to take blood sugars and must augment this teaching with information concerning diabetes and S/S of hyper/hypoglycemia. I need to find a nursing journal article pertaining to the education of diabetes for CNAs or general information on diabetes in the elderly or blood glucose monitoring. Something along those lines. If anyone has any suggestions or can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. Oh ya, and the article can only be from within the past 5 years. I have searched for HOURS already. Thank You!!

I'm not trying to be critical, but in ONE Google search (a simple one - I typed in "diabetes education") I found the titles of three journals on diabetes. One of them is actually CALLED The Diabetes Educator.
This is such a hot topic right now - I'm sorry that I'm finding it difficult to believe you're having no luck. Stop panicking (you sound like you are) and Google again, then call your school's library and find out what journals they have.
I have done exactly what you have done and the articles are not specifically relevant, or they are not written by a Nurse, or they are not from the past 5 years. Thanks, but I need to meet all of this criteria. I wish it were that easy!! I'd be done with my write up and relaxing by now!

I have bad news - I suspect the reason you can't find an appropriate article is because there isn't one. I used Google Scholar to search articles published since 2005, with various permutations of: diabetes, monitor, glucose, sugar, teach, education, educate, train, curricula, curriculum and certified nursing assistant. Though I got several hits with each search, none of them was at all useful from an education program point of view.
I did find a few general papers about diabetes in the elderly that might be of some peripheral use, but they all seem to be by physicians, and not specific enough for what I think you need.
The (possible) good news is that this negative finding indicated a gap in the literature. The bad news is that I get the impression that doesn't help you, at least in the short term.
Thank you for your efforts!! I found an article a few minutes ago entitled "Is your staff prepared to handle a diabetic crisis?" from a publication entitled Nursing Homes, and it is written by an RN. I am hoping that this will sufice as I can glom some good information from it. The problem is that my instructor is rather picky. Wish me luck! Thank you again!!:)
No worries - glad you found something and sorry I found nothing. Good luck :)
