Nursing Jobs

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm currently looking into Nursing Schools. I have a keen interest in Marian University. I'm willing to move from NYC to Indianapolis to accomplish a dream of mines. There are plenty of ABSN programs, I've done countless of research trying to find the right program that suits me. I willing to take out loans, scholarships, etc.. The real question is are there JOBS out there for NURSES? ARE they hard to FIND? Is this program worth me taking out a 50,000+ loan?

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

DO NOT take out a $50,000 loan for a BSN. Jobs for new grads are very hard to come by right now. Surely you can find a more cost-effective program.

Are you a NY State resident? If so you should consider moving up state to Buffalo. The University at Buffalo has an ABSN and traditional nursing program. It is a public university with very reasonable cost of attendance. I got accepted to the ABSN program and am starting in May if you have any other question s.I don't know how to copy and paste from my phone but Google UB spring 2014 tuition to get an idea. Tuition and fees are $7,989 a YEAR!! Not bad compared to other schools. So if you did e traditional and you already have a bachelors t would cost around $16,000. The ABSN is a bit more at $20,000 because you pay more over summer.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Many job markets are pretty saturated right now. Where would you be planning to work?

$50,000 is A LOT to go into debt for a program. I'd consider a less expensive route if at all possible, or save up and pay cash as best you can.

P.S. there are prerequisites bit you can take then at a community collage pretty inexpensively. Plus the area hospitals have new grad residency programs. I think three job market here for nurses is better than most other places. The cost of living is low as well and I've been hearing $28-30 an hour starting pay!!

Thank you for your response.. I plan to work in the Hospital, LTC, etc. petty much anywhere..

Thank you I will definitely look into Buffalo. Do you know if Buffalo is partnered with any hospital. I don't want to take out loans and can not find a job in Nursing..

We do clinicals at several area hospitals. We were told the last four weeks of clinical are like a long job interview. We are put on the schedule at one of the hospitals and while it is still just a part of schooling we have a chance to show what we've learned and impress with our skills. If they like us we might be offered a position but nothing is guaranteed. Hope this helps.

Thanks it was very helpful, it was sounding to good to be true. Admission made it seem like once you completed the program you get a job right away because of affiliations. Did majority of the students receive a job with the network?

Specializes in ICU.

Indianapolis is not a saturated market right now so it depends on where you want to live once you graduate. That seems like an awful lot of money though to spend. Is it because you would have to pay out-of-state tuition? If you are interested in the Indianapolis area there are lots of schools that are cheaper for a BSN. I live just a little north of Indy if you want to message me.

Marian is a private college, that's the cost of their ABSN program for everyone whether in state or out of state.. Sure..
