Follow up on a job application

I sent my resume and cover letter recently to a director of nursing in a rehab facility. She wrote back saying she sent it to her manager who will call me for an interview. It's been 3 days since that mail. How long should I wait to make a follow up call or mail? I really want this job..but don't want to be pushy.. Any feedback is appreciated.

Did you actually apply or just send over a resume? It's possible that you were told they were forwarding it just to push you aside, because the director of nursing is the highest manager for nursing in the facility. Maybe they have an exclusive hiring manager though, every place is different. If you did apply, it may take several weeks for them to call. Good luck. I know it is stressful, but it takes a long time for this to happen sometimes. They may have a lot of applicants or additional tasks to do during the day and the hiring is only a small part. I'd say if you have not heard back in 2 weeks, call. If you call too soon or too much they get frustrated with you.

I just send over a resume to the DON, because I did not get any response from the recruiter by applying online. I am hoping this way at least I will get noticed, and improve my chances of getting hired.

I am in the beginning stages of my job hunt myself but I would recommend that in the future if you have completed an online app, and waited up to two weeks with no response, then go in to the facility with resume in hand and ask to speak with the DON or hiring manager. Just sending it to the DON without the face to face, is about the same as doing the online app, plus if they have gone exclusively with online apps etc then they may not even look at your resume because they will assume that you didn't apply how they wanted you to, but if you are standing there in their face and talking with them they are more apt to review your resume right there and give you a brief /informal interview that may get you called for an official interview days later!

Thanks! Actually I was at that point where I wanted to go straight to the facility and give them my resume, because nobody ever responds. But I just thought of emailing the DON, and guess what??she replied back with an interview date too!! Now Iam nervous..and excited. I dont know whether I should mention that I applied many times. was unsuccessful and finally emailed the DON.
