Good sign?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

So I posted about 2 weeks ago before my first interview with no response.. ended up getting a second interview with a nurse manager on a renal med/surg unit which I had yesterday.

In my opinion, the interview went really well! I was greeted by a very nice nurse on the floor who got the nm for me (it was busy because they just had a code). She went over my resume and was pleased with everything on there (Spanish minor, previous work in customer service type jobs, BSN, etc.). She asked the basic questions such as where I see myself in 5 years and also asked a scenario question if I was asked to give a med I didn't want to give. She then described orientation and basically started talking as if I had the job. "You would be precepting with so and so.. You would start on nights but can switch to days if something opens up.. It's a part time position but you can definitely pick up shifts to make it full time.." and so on. She then brought in a nurse from the floor for me to talk to and ask questions.

At the end of the interview she said the nurse recruiter would be in touch. I don't want to get my hopes up but I really want this job and feel like it couldn't have gone better. I walked out feeling great and just got a good vibe from the whole experience and the feel of the staff/unit. Any opinions? Thanks in advance! :cat:

That sounds like a good sign to me. What does your gut tell you?

I've had interviews when I KNEW I had the job. And I've had interviews when I knew that I absolutely didn't. I find the gut is often right.

Thanks for the response!! My gut is telling me I got it, but like I said i don't want to get my hopes up and be extremely disappointed with a different outcome. Just gotta play the waiting game now! :nailbiting:

I am in the same position, interviewed Friday for a position in mother baby unit. I felt great when I left and now I just can't wait any longer for my answer (it's only been like two days lol). My gut tells me I got it but I'm afraid to be to excited because it can always go the opposite way for so many reasons. I'm a new grad with BSN and reallllly want this position!

RN.456 I feel your pain (and I've been waiting since Tuesday)!!!! I'm hoping I hear something tomorrow or the next day and if I don't I'll probably give the nurse recruiter a call. I've been checking my email entirely too much and unnecessarily overthinking everything I said in the interview. Let me know if you hear anything!!! Hoping for good news for the both of us!

Just got a call today!!! They want to extend an offer, but the position switched from days to nights. For that reason, they have to repost the job internally for 10 days because they're unionized. The nurse recruiter is going to call when they post the job and when the 10 days are up. She said she's 99% sure no one else will apply and that I'll get the position so I'm praying no issues come up!!!! GAH I'm so excited!!!

Lol congratulations !!!! Hopefully I'm next, I'm praying lol:nailbiting:

You okay with nights?

You okay with nights?

Absolutely! Of course it will be an adjustment, but I'm just excited for the possibility of starting my first job! I knew nights were very likely when applying in the first place, so it doesn't bother me at all. :cat: I think the reason it switched is because the most recent hire went from nights to days, so I would be taking her old position.

Yea I interviewed for nights as well. I think every new nurse basically gets nights as a first job.

So I called the NM and she told me that she can't say anything to me personally but I should be receiving a phone call, and not in a negative way!:D I'm excited but I'll believe it when I get the actual job offer lol! I don't understand how long does it take for HR to call you???

RN.456 that's so exciting!!! Hope you get the *official* offer soon! And honestly I think it varies for every hospital depending what they have to do prior to hiring and how many other things they happen to be dealing with at the time. I'm still waiting for another call from the nurse recruiter.. I'm hoping she's busy/forgot to call and the position has been reposted so that the 10 days have started already.
