hello fellow nurses.. i would like to hear your advises and insights concerning my predicament. i'm 39 yrs old, i'm a registered nurse, its been 6 years and i still haven't got a hospital/clinical job. i took jobs here and there and started a little business.i i even tried my luck abroad for awhile. i'm thinking of pursuing my dream job AGAIN. what do i have to do?what kind of trainings/seminars do i have to take? can a 39 year old have a chance to get hired in a hospital as a nurse?

thank you all!

In our current batch as RN res at VLuna, we have a colleague who's a year older than you. So i think age isnt a hindrance for you to be able to practice nursing again. Goodluck! :)

Same sentiments with you Dylan21. My plan is to attend trainings/volunteers to gain confidence in performing basic skills. Afterwards, I'll try my luck applying in provincial hospitals, as it is easier to get hired as staff nurse.

Good luck to us!

In my batch as RNheals, i do have 3 colleagues ages 37-38. Ages is not a problem as long as you want to pursue the nursing career. First do some refreshers in basic nursing skills like BLS, ACLS, IVT. Nothing is easy in nursing but it is always good to learned again. Good luck

I am now 25 years old and worked as a company nurse after I graduated. I want to pursue my career working in a hospital setting. Good luck to us!

I agree. I think it is really easier to get hired as a staff nurse in provincial hospitals. After I graduated nursing I worked in a BPO company for a year then I got bored. I really want o pursue our profession. I resigned and applied as a Volunteer Nurse in Bulacan. Luckily after hard work and dedication I got hired. Prayers, hard work, dedication and positive thoughts were the keys.:)

In the PH, your chances are very slim. The PH is very cruel to nurses above age 30. PHILIPPINE EMPLOYERS ARE VERY DISCRIMINATORY when it comes to age.

Aww, that's very inspiring nurse_i :) Are you from Bulacan? Or did you took the risk of independently moving there to gain hospital experience?

I don't want to reach 30 and yet still no hospital experience :(

Have You considered private nursing?

i definitely agree;)..if you really want to pursue nursing, then just do it.i suggest you pass your resume at san juan de dios(pasay city).i really appreciate how they choose their trainees fairly(no backer system whatsoever, unlike in government hospitals...)

Very true! Backer system, only in the Philippines.
