nursing home background checks

Published

Hello I am a newly licensed lpn. I have recently filled out a couple of job applications. I have a petty theft charge that I dislosed to my bon. I was 15 I am now 25. I have no restrictions on my license and got it expunged. My question is will a nursing home still be able to see this charge or can I say no on the criminal charges questions being that it was expunged. I've heard different answers regarding whether or not nursing home employers have access to expunged records. Please help! Thank you

Possibly. If it's a government facility, yes.

And keep in mind that expungement doesn't erase all traces of it from your record--for example, your arrest may still be visible on your criminal record.

One way to find out what you will see in a background check is to order a background check on yourself.

As far as what to put down on the application, we can't give legal advice at AN: you will need to seek the assistance of an attorney for assistance in how to answer application questions.

Best of luck.
