Nursing with fibroids

Published

Hello all,

This is not apost asking fo rmedical advise, just putting that out thre now. I'm a new nurse just starting an internship program. I happen to have fibtroids with mentral periods that last about ten or soo days at a time. Is there anyone out there like this? I am seeing medical people alread and working on getting this under control.

What I want to know is..how do you cope? Do yuou talk to the mamagere about who you'll need to use th restroom often to change pads? What are the best pads to use while on the floor? What are some non-medication ways to relieve the pain?

Thank you

You might want to ask your Doctor about the Mirena IUD or some other form of BC that will stop or reduce your periods. I'm getting ready to get a Mirena for this exact reason:) I had a period last 15 days recently so I feel your pain.

I also have fibroids and endometreosis. The pain is unbearable at times and even morphine doesn't help. I also feel like I haven't slept in years. But I can't take strong drugs while I am working. That is just how I am because I wouldn't be able to properly do my job when stoned on pills. Some people might do just fine but for those who can't function on strong pain killers I found something that works and it is amazing....hot green tea :)

I have PCOS and have had fibroids. I use overnight pads, and ultra tampons at the same time. This may be TMI but just in case the tampons are not enough I have back up. You never know in our profession when an emergency comes up just as you were heading to the ladies room. Good luck. I know that it is hard.
