Hello everyone

My name is diamond. Could anyone tell me more about the points system , how does it work? Also is there any material that one can study for the compass test. I have been trying to get selected for the nursing program for about a 2 years yet, I am learning more things about the selection process. At first pre nursing students was given the tabe test and now it seems the big test now is the compass test. I look forward to any info that is given.

Hi there, I responded to the quest regarding point system in the "Letter...Spring 07" thread. Unfortunately can't answer about these tests as I had to take the NET test. Don't get discouraged (not that you sounded like you were)--Keep on trying you'll get in!

I was surprised that my school doesn't require these test prior to admission, but they do use the NET test in the 1st semester of nursing as an "assessment tool" to measure the scores of current students. I was told this was a way for them to adjust the admission criteria in order to select better candidates for admission in the future.

P.S. I also commented in "the letter" thread about our points system and admission requirements.

My school doesn't use a point system. Instead they use a computation to come up with your "likely-hood to succeed". They take our totaly GPA, grades from our core science classes(Anatomy,Physio,Micro), and grades from all English classes and come up with a percentage. You have to get at least a 70% to be eligable for the program and then it is all random. They basically pull your name out of a hat. They used to take the top % down the list, but then they realized that the "best" students dont alway make the "best" nurses. We are not required to take any tests before applying to the program.

Mixy- In my acceptance letter they said that I have to take a test before the semster begins and that it will take 5-6 hours. It is supposed to test our general knowledge, do you think it is the NET test? I noticed you were taking it in your 1st semester, like me, but my school didn't give me the name of the test.

Thanks,

Amber

There are different versions of the NET but the one I took didn't take near that long. I think ours was no more than three hours--I don't know what version we took. Good luck on whichever test it is though!

My school had me take 2 seperate tests. One was a very short-timed test called the Wonderlik... I had to geta certain about right, and I think they use that to see what program youre best cut out for (I go to one of those private schools that offer a lot of different career training in the medical field). The second test I took was the NET. There was a book I could've bought, but it was all just basic reading, comprehension and math. Maybe there is a book out there you could buy for the COMPASS test, go online or down to Barne's and Noble. Good luck!
