Hi all,
I was told to get my hands on a good nursing dictionary to help with my studies - I'm a 1st year student. As there is a huge choice of Australian and overseas ones I thought I should ask if anyone has one as an indispensible tool that they would like to share the title with me please??
Cheers!

Hey.
I spent ages choosing my nursing dictionary. I wanted one that was small enough to easily take to the hospital but one large enough to include good explanations, diagrams, tables of norms etc.
I ended up choosing the Oxford Dictionary of Nursing. Explanations are easy to understand and not too long, diagrams are great. Its been good but i (and lots of other people in my class who all got different dictionaries) found we didnt end up using a nursing dictionary as much as we thought we would (often google and text books are used more!).
Havent had any probs with using a non Australian/NZ one.
Always handy to have one (especially at the beginning of training) but dont worry too much one which one!

Although its not Australian, I have found Mosby's Dictionary of Nursing and Allied Health a great reference though it is really heavy!
Thanks Rach and Dar for your replies. I spent about 2 hours in a city book store trolling though all the dictionaries they had and ended up settling on Mosby's Australian version. At $85 if I dont use it very much it will make it an unique and expensive door stop!
Thanks to both of you.

Hey bombergirl! There is an Australian version? Oh dear, suddenly I think my old Mosby's a little outdated and I'm getting an itchy palm to buy another textbook. Hmm, maybe the old one will make a good doorstop, because it is starting to look really tatty from lots of use, and I hate throwing old books away. No not really, doesn't deserve that sort of disrespect, it is still a good resource, and I can just imagine the price of a new one. But I'll keep that information in mind
Hey Dar, if your interested the book is called Mosby's Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing & Health Professions.... Aust and NZ Edition. I'm like you with books - I can never throw any out!!

I have a Mosby's australian version as well and I love it!
I bought it in my 2nd semester of study and have used it continually ever since.
It would have to be the best $90 I have spent out of the $1000's I have spent on textbooks in this degre
