Nursing diagnosis for Lobesectomy

HI!!!

Im a first year nursing student. My patient for my clinical on friday was a week after his lobesectomy surgery. He was even released from the hospital during the day. I have to do a Med/Surg sheet, Med sheet, and a careplan. For the careplan what would his nursing diagnosis even be. He was fine on friday and was being released. Please help. Would the risk for falls be the priority on?. Or is there still a risk for infection even though hes a week post surgery?

Do you mean a "lobectomy"? I never heard of a "lobesectomy".

Lobectomy of what? Lung? Thyroid? Brain?

If lung, I'm pretty sure airway issues would be your #1 priority. Remember ABCs.

Also what was the underlying reason for the lobectomy? That might give you a few as well.

I am unclear is he being released on Friday or was he and now he is not?

Don't forget discharge planning (which might give you some knowledge deficit stuff).

lobesectomy is a misspelling. are you talking about surgery on the lung or some other organ?

nursing diagnoses are always based upon the patient's signs and symptoms that they are experiencing, not on their medical diagnosis or the surgical intervention they had. i really can't be of much help here because you have included no assessment information about this patient. all care planning begins by doing a thorough assessment of the patient and then making a list of the abnormal assessment items.

assessment includes:

  • a health history (review of systems)
  • performing a physical exam
  • assessing their adls (at minimum: bathing, dressing, mobility, eating, toileting, and grooming)
  • reviewing the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms and complications of their medical condition
  • reviewing the signs, symptoms and side effects of the medications/treatments that have been ordered and that the patient is taking

Sorry, yes its a lobectomy of the lung. He was post-op metastatic salivary gland carcinoma to the lung. He is AAO x 3. His HEENT is wnl. neuro is wnl. cardio wnl. Pt c/o dry cough.. His bowel sounds are hypoactive and he has a rlq ileostomy. hes had a foley and upon discharging had to meet with a doctor to get it removed. skin assesment was wnl. He had general mild weakness. pt c/o pain on the left side on a 7/10. Was given 20mg roxicet every 4 hours for this. I had him for my clinical on friday 10/30 he was released at 1pm that day.

My friend just graduated from nursing school so shes gunna try and help me understand this a little better. Im sorry if i confused any of you guys. Im only in my 12th week so this is all new and confusing
