Hi,
I'm new to this forum and need help fast..I am looking for a simple formula for statement or two that explains why a choosen nursing diagnosis is a priority. I have a few examples such as, "mobility facilitates pulmonary function to increase blood flow. Failure to mobilize a patient can lead to postoperative complications such as pneumonia and delay healing and increase length of hospitalization." The nusring diagnosis was "impaired physical mobility r/t extereme weakness with s/s inability to ambulate independently.
Can anyone help me? Thank you.

henny0507, the answer is not to be found in a list attached to given nursing diagnoses, just as there is no magic list of nursing diagnoses assigned to medical diagnoses, and for the same reason: The answer is to be found in the critical thinking you are asked to develop as a nurse. There may not be A single "correct" answer as to why you prioritize things the way you choose to, but your faculty will be interested in the way you think, and this is they way they know. So...why do you think that it's important?
The example you give is fine... if it applies to the patient for whom it was given.
Or am I misunderstanding you?
Note: for full impact of this message, it should display in Comic Sans, green. Thank you.

Keep it simple for your priorities. You've just made a list of all your nursing dx. Now which on your list will get you and the patient in trouble if you don't get on it right away? Think, "If I don't move #4 on my list up to #1 on my list, the patient will die" Get it? . Obviously not everything has a catastrophic outcome, but you understand now/
I think you got things a bit muddled, you might take another look at your reference book.
