i'm starting the first semester of an adn program on the 27th and i wanted to know if anyone actually uses nursing clipboards such as the one found in this link http://www.standris.com/medical_clipboard.cfm.
if not, are there any others that you would recommend or are they a waste of money?? what are your thoughts??

YES! Get one, you'll love it forever. Especially when you get into your own routine. The nurses here have to print out kardex's (which are like miniature reports on a patient) and MARS. Rather than have to look for all of your papers, you can just carry them all around. A popular trend I see with the nurses here is that they cut their kardexs/mars opposite the side being clipped to their boards. They cut out tabs from the margins. They highlight the tabs, that way they can flip easily to a pts paper. This works nicely if you have margins to work with.
Until they make a PDA that squirts out hand sanitizer, holds my gum, forceps, and hemostats.... I'll just carry my PDA in my pocket and my storage clipboard

I used to carry a clear plastic clipboard when I was a CNA. It was pink and I could always find it. I didn't buy a nursing clipboard for this Fall however because they cost too much (20.00?) I went the Wal-mart way also and got a storage clipboard for 7.50 that will hold my stethoscope and other supplies until I get to clinicals and my notes while I'm there. I tried using just a piece of paper like some of the nurses I worked with, but we would spend the day asking each other if we had seen them. I also like having a surface to write on, some people load up their bedside tables so good luck using those!
